Job summary

As an Environmental Services Worker II, you will help keep a hospital environment clean, sanitary, and safe for patients, employees, and visitors. The role centers on routine cleaning, disinfecting, floor maintenance, waste handling, linen processing, and spill response, all carried out in line with hospital procedures and infection prevention requirements. The position supports patient safety, cleanliness, and compliance with facility standards.

Core duties

• Carry out floor maintenance activities such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, waxing, and shampooing different floor types to preserve appearance and reduce hazards.
• Collect, transport, and dispose of waste correctly, including biohazardous, infectious, and regular waste, while following the hospital’s rules and applicable regulations.
• Manage soiled linens, including removal, replacement of bags, and proper containment and storage.
• Clean and disinfect patient rooms, restrooms, corridors, offices, and shared spaces in accordance with infection control expectations.
• Respond to spills and contamination incidents with the appropriate cleaning and disinfection steps to keep areas safe.
• Relocate furniture, floor mats, and other items when needed for cleaning, maintenance, or departmental moves.
• Track cleaning supply consumption carefully, using materials responsibly and storing them safely.
• Report repair and maintenance issues to a supervisor or the facilities team so they can be addressed promptly.
• Keep accurate logs and records of completed cleaning work and other environmental services activities.
• Take on additional tasks as assigned, while maintaining dependable attendance and adherence to all policies and standards.

Requirements

• At least 1 to 3 years of experience in environmental services, housekeeping, custodial work, or hospital maintenance is required.
• Working knowledge of cleaning methods, cleaning agents, and floor care techniques is needed.
• You must be able to handle biohazardous and infectious waste safely and in line with infection control rules.
• Comfort with cleaning and maintaining equipment, plus using it correctly, is important.
• Attention to detail and the ability to follow cleaning schedules accurately are necessary.
• Familiarity with hospital procedures, safety practices, and regulatory requirements for environmental services is expected.
• You should be able to work independently as well as collaboratively in a busy healthcare setting.
• Professional communication skills are needed for interactions with staff, patients, and visitors.

Certification preference

Certification in Environmental Services or Healthcare Cleaning, such as CHEST or CHESP, is preferred.

Additional information

This is a full-time, onsite position based in Flowood, Mississippi, with a shift schedule of 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM.

The role requires compliance with all hospital policies, safety guidelines, and infection control standards.
