Dining Assistant

Role overview

Windmill Healthcare is hiring a permanent, full-time Dining Assistant for Ferbane Care Centre in Ferbane, County Offaly. This role supports the day-to-day smooth running of the dining area and helps maintain a consistently clean and orderly environment.

Key duties

• Get the dining room ready before every meal service.
• Wipe down tables and chairs, and set the tables again whenever required.
• Keep the Head Chef and Care Centre team updated on how many residents are dining in the room at each mealtime, including anyone who needs meals delivered to their rooms on trays.
• Carry prepared meals from the kitchen to the dining room and serve residents in a friendly, courteous way.
• Clear and clean the dining room after meals, and ensure used cutlery, crockery, and utensils are returned to the kitchen for cleaning.
• Inform Care Centre staff about any changes in a resident’s eating habits, especially if someone refuses food, and make sure this is noted and escalated appropriately.
• Report any complaints to the Head Chef or Proprietor as needed.

Skills and experience

Previous experience in a comparable role is an advantage. The ideal candidate should genuinely care about older people, bring patience, kindness, and a good sense of humour, and have a positive outlook. Strong communication skills, the ability to collaborate with others, and the confidence to perform well in a busy setting are important. A fluent command of spoken and written English is required.
