Descripción del trabajo

Role overview

An opportunity is available for an experienced dietitian to join a collaborative service supporting mental health inpatient care. The post focuses on specialist nutritional input, targeted interventions, and improving patient pathways across the Mental Health Care Division.

What you will do

You will work across inpatient mental health wards, managing a varied caseload that includes patients needing help with weight management, nutritional support, and care for co-existing health conditions. The role also involves supporting colleagues with their caseloads, contributing to supervision, and helping build confidence and capability within the team.

Day-to-day work includes running ward-based clinics to assess and review patients, taking part in multidisciplinary team meetings to share treatment plans and monitoring needs, and collaborating closely with a range of healthcare professionals. You will also deliver training on nutritional screening, assist with audit work, and contribute to the Nutrition and Hydration Strategy.

Professional standards and development

Using evidence-based practice is essential, and all work must align with the British Dietetic Association Professional Code of Conduct. This role may be offered as a Band 6 to Band 7 development opportunity, giving experienced Band 6 dietitians the chance to progress once the required competencies are completed. These competencies are expected to be achieved within 3 to 6 months of starting.

Service context

The position sits within a large NHS trust delivering physical and mental health services across the North West and beyond. The trust provides specialist inpatient and community services, including mental health, learning disability, addiction, and brain injury services, and is one of only three UK trusts offering high secure mental health facilities.

The organisation is committed to delivering “perfect care” that is safe, effective, timely, equitable, efficient, and positively experienced. It also supports service-user involvement in service design and is undertaking wider organisational and service transformation to improve quality and reduce costs.
