Company overview
SAMTECH SWITCHGEAR & AUTOMATION TECHNOLOGIES CO. W.L.L. has been operating in Doha, Qatar since 2004 and supports the country’s infrastructure and commercial growth through low-voltage switchgear supply. The company is an authorized panel builder for Schneider Electric, with the capability to assemble Blokset and Prisma TT switchboards and supply a broad range of LV products in Qatar. It also works as a franchised panel builder for L&T Switchgear, producing and supplying Enersys M switchboards and related low-voltage solutions. Its work spans a variety of switchgear applications such as main distribution boards, motor control centers, final distribution boards, feeder pillars, capacitor banks, HVAC panels, and genset control panels, giving engineers exposure to complex, large-scale assignments in a professional, quality-focused environment.
Role summary
This is a full-time, on-site Design Engineer position in Doha, Qatar. The role focuses on the engineering and design of low-voltage switchgear and associated control panels, including main distribution boards, motor control centers, submain switchboards, and specialized panel solutions. The position requires careful technical design work, coordination with internal teams, and support across the manufacturing and project lifecycle.
Key responsibilities
The selected candidate will create detailed engineering drawings and panel layouts using CAD software, carry out electrical and mechanical calculations, and choose suitable components for each design. The role also involves checking that all designs align with applicable standards and customer requirements, working closely with project, production, and procurement teams, and supporting assembly and installation activities. In addition, the Design Engineer will review technical documents, clarify design points for internal teams and clients, improve design efficiency and quality, and help resolve design-related issues during fabrication and testing.
Qualifications and experience
The ideal candidate should have a solid grounding in design engineering and product design, with the ability to produce practical and safe low-voltage switchgear solutions. A strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles as they apply to enclosures, structures, and panel arrangement is important, along with experience in electrical engineering related to power distribution, control systems, and low-voltage applications. Proficiency with CAD tools is required for schematics, assembly drawings, and layout development. A bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or a related engineering discipline is preferred, or equivalent professional experience may be considered. Knowledge of IEC or similar electrical standards is useful, and familiarity with Schneider Electric and L&T switchgear products is an advantage. Candidates should also bring strong analytical ability, close attention to technical accuracy, good communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams while meeting deadlines. Prior experience in switchgear design and panel-related work is beneficial.
