About Watercare

Watercare is entering a major investment phase, with plans to invest $14 billion over the next 10 years. That works out to an average of $3.8 million every day, all aimed at supporting a growing city in a way that is resilient to climate challenges.

About the role

This is a practical outdoor position for someone who enjoys working with purpose in natural settings and wants to support Auckland’s water supply. As a Dam Technician, you will work on and around dams in some of the region’s most striking environments, combining hands-on technical work with confidence in outdoor and water-based settings.

The role is varied, and each day brings different tasks. Your work will directly contribute to an essential service for Aucklanders.

Key duties

  • Inspect, operate, and look after essential headworks assets so they stay safe and dependable.
  • Support smooth water supply operations through clear communication and day-to-day operational assistance.
  • Maintain the hydrological network so it performs to standard and provides reliable information for decision-making.

About you

We are seeking someone who is comfortable working outdoors, takes a practical approach to work, and has confidence in environments around water.

To succeed in this role, you should bring:

  • A relevant technical qualification or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • A current full New Zealand driver’s licence.
  • An engineering or science qualification at tertiary level, which would be advantageous but is not mandatory.
  • Experience in a similar setting, with a strong emphasis on water safety.
  • Confidence using computer systems and databases.

You should also be a capable problem solver, able to think quickly, work well on your own, and contribute positively to a close-knit team. Reliability, practicality, and a commitment to quality are important.

What’s on offer

This position comes with a competitive salary and a staff benefits package that includes training and development opportunities, life and income protection insurance, generous parental leave, and employee discounts with a range of major retailers.
