Role overview
The Cyber Security Analyst is responsible for protecting computer systems and networks against cyber threats. The position involves keeping an eye on network activity for signs of compromise, putting safeguards in place, and handling incidents to limit or prevent damage. It also includes running awareness efforts that help strengthen organization-wide IT security knowledge.
Qualifications
- A college qualification in a computer-related field is preferred, along with a security certification.
- At least 5 years of experience in cyber security management is required.
- Strong technical ability and sound analytical thinking are essential.
- Working understanding of Windows and Macintosh operating systems, network protocols, firewalls, and system patching is needed.
- The role requires the ability to identify, uncover, and resolve possible security risks or breaches.
- Familiarity with information security policies and regulations, particularly in the not-for-profit space, is desirable.
- Experience assessing vendor information security reports such as SOC 2 during the contracting process is important for risk review.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are necessary, along with the judgment to handle sensitive information with trust and discretion while working with management, teammates, IT staff, and the wider user community.
