Communication Officer

Role overview

Avsi Kenya is hiring a Communication Officer in Uganda to strengthen communication across programs and projects. The role focuses on building effective communication approaches, creating polished visual materials, supporting events, and producing content that can be used for both internal and external engagement.

Key responsibilities

• Create communication plans and information strategies that support the organization’s wider projects and programmes.
• Prepare internal communication guidance and materials that improve coordination and networking within the organization.
• Design high-quality graphics for organizational reports and related publications.
• Capture, document, and write up project change stories, maintain photo archives, and keep social media content updated.
• Serve as rapporteur for events and meetings by accurately recording proceedings and minutes.
• Deliver strong photography outputs for organizational use.
• Produce videography content and 3D animation materials as needed.

Requirements

• A degree in Mass Communication, Development Communication, Communications, Journalism, or a closely related field is preferred.
• Hands-on ability with InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, and Premier Pro, along with photography and filming skills.
• Strong writing skills are required.
• Prior experience with international organizations or consultancy work is desirable, especially in strategic communications planning.

• Comfortable working collaboratively in a multicultural team environment.
• Able to manage multiple tasks and handle irregular as well as extended working hours.
• Good working knowledge of the AVSI Foundation is expected.
• Strong computer literacy and proficiency with standard office applications.
• Willingness to be based in either rural or urban locations and travel frequently within the implementation area.
• Must be culturally sensitive, patient, and adaptable.
