About Distalmotion

Distalmotion is a worldwide medical technology company focused on making robotic surgery more accessible through a simpler, more flexible platform. Its DEXTER® Robotic Surgery System is built to help more surgeons and care sites, particularly smaller and cost-sensitive ambulatory surgical centers, adopt surgical robotics while preserving efficiency and profitability.

The DEXTER system is designed to fit smoothly into current surgical workflows. It is compact, quick to deploy, and suitable for operating rooms of different sizes. The product is commercially available in both the United States and Europe.

Distalmotion is based in Lausanne, Switzerland, and also has a US office in Cleveland, Ohio.

Position Overview

The Clinical Training Specialist is an important part of the US Training team. This person will deliver clinical education to surgeons, nurses, and reprocessing technicians, and will also support the onboarding and certification of new Clinical Sales Specialists. In addition, the role is responsible for the day-to-day operation of one or more US training centers.

The goal of the position is to make sure internal teams and external partners gain the knowledge and practical capability required to use DEXTER safely, effectively, and in a way that supports an excellent customer experience.

Distalmotion is in an active phase of US growth, with expanding clinical indications and a growing surgeon training footprint across the country.

Training Delivery

  • Run training sessions for newly onboarded surgeons, nurses, and reprocessing technicians in dry-lab and wet-lab environments, including sessions at the Center for the Future of Surgery (CFS) lab in San Diego and other training sites as needed.
  • Adapt training materials and delivery methods in a compliant way so they match the needs of different audience groups.

Onboarding and Certification

  • Provide internal training programs that prepare and certify new Clinical Sales Specialists for their roles.
  • Lead the certification process by evaluating trainee performance and confirming readiness.

Training Center Management

  • Oversee the CFS training center, and other centers as required, including coordination with owners and internal/external stakeholders for stock, logistics, and maintenance.
  • Deliver training using multiple modalities such as porcine, cadaveric, and inanimate models.

Refresher and Continuous Training

  • Design and carry out refresher programs to keep stakeholder knowledge and hands-on skills current.
  • Provide ongoing training support so users maintain strong knowledge and practical proficiency.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Work with cross-functional teams to identify training needs and align delivery with customer expectations and business objectives.
  • Develop productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders to encourage continuous learning and improvement.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Keep detailed and accurate records of training sessions, attendance, and performance evaluations.
  • Prepare recurring reports on training results and share observations that can improve future programs.

DEXTER Case Support

  • Secure the necessary vendor credentials to access operating rooms in hospitals, ambulatory surgical centers, and other locations where DEXTER procedures take place.
  • Offer technical assistance on the DEXTER robot to surgeons when support is needed.

Requirements

Applicants should hold a bachelor’s degree and bring at least five years of experience in medical device training. Experience in a MedTech setting is expected, while experience in laparoscopy or robotic surgery is considered an advantage.

The role also calls for strong communication, presentation, and facilitation skills, along with the ability to build relationships, organize work effectively, solve problems, and remain flexible and creative under pressure. Candidates should be self-directed and able to work independently while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams.

Additional expectations include up to 50% domestic travel within the US during most of the year, the ability to stand and work in operating room environments for extended surgical procedures when necessary, and a valid driver’s license for travel to customer sites.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • 401(k) and IRA retirement options
  • Basic, voluntary, and AD&D life insurance
  • Paid time off, including vacation, sick leave, and public holidays
  • Maternity and paternity leave
  • Short-term and long-term disability coverage
  • Training and professional development opportunities
  • Work-from-home flexibility
