Role overview

emeis Ireland is hiring an Assistant Payroll Manager to help run the day-to-day payroll operation from the Convoy office in County Donegal. The role supports accurate and on-time payroll processing for more than 3,000 employees, covering weekly, fortnightly, and monthly pay runs.

Reporting to the Payroll Manager, you will support the payroll team, help improve payroll controls and reporting, and contribute to compliance and process development across the function.

Key responsibilities

  • Oversee and assist with daily payroll activity across weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly payroll cycles.
  • Guide and support the payroll team while maintaining high standards for accuracy, compliance, and service.
  • Partner with the Payroll Manager on operational delivery, improvement projects, and departmental goals.
  • Contribute to the refinement of payroll processes, internal controls, and reporting outputs.
  • Ensure payroll runs are completed correctly and aligned with legal and company obligations.
  • Serve as a main contact for payroll questions and issue escalation.
  • Support payroll projects, system updates, audits, and change programmes as needed.
  • Help maintain effective payroll controls and adherence to relevant legislation and internal policies.

Candidate profile

The ideal candidate will bring 3 to 5 years of payroll experience, including some exposure to supervision or team leadership. Hands-on experience coordinating or leading payroll work is required, along with a solid grasp of payroll law, compliance, and established payroll practices.

You should be well organised, a strong communicator, and confident in solving problems and working to deadlines in a busy environment. An IPASS qualification is preferred, but it is not mandatory; support will be provided for the successful candidate to enrol in and complete it.

What’s offered

The position comes with a competitive salary and benefits package, along with opportunities for learning, development, and career growth. The employer also notes flexibility for the right person and the chance to join a growing organisation supporting a payroll function that serves more than 3,000 employees nationwide.
