Role Overview
This role is focused on supporting and maintaining the organization’s portfolio of software applications using sound best practices. The selected professional will assist application and development teams with issues related to the development and deployment of mission-critical banking and information systems.
Key Responsibilities
The position covers a broad mix of strategic, technical, customer-facing, process, and compliance-related responsibilities. The incumbent is expected to contribute to solution design, application support, testing, documentation, and continuous improvement across core banking systems.
What You Will Do
- Deliver practical solutions that address user and business needs.
- Contribute to execution of the wider IT strategy.
- Support implementation of Key Risk Indicators and Key Performance Indicators.
- Apply KPI-driven practices and operational best practices in the core banking application environment.
- Encourage cost awareness, efficiency, and productivity while reducing waste and improving value for the bank.
- Operate within the authority delegated to the role.
- Work with analysts, designers, and system owners to support, develop, and unit test existing and new software applications.
- Coordinate with developers on quality assurance, program logic, and data handling matters.
- Work with the Manager - Core Banking Applications to ensure issues and emergencies are handled quickly and effectively.
- Follow service-level agreements with internal units to improve turnaround times.
- Build strong working relationships with internal departments to help the Group meet its objectives.
- Provide accurate and timely information to auditors, compliance teams, financial control, and risk functions when required.
- Participate in the development and rollout of new applications, system software, and enhancements across the enterprise.
- Review the effectiveness and efficiency of current applications and recommend improvements or better use of existing systems.
- Suggest suitable software services to support development work.
- Ensure new integrations meet functional needs, compliance requirements, and interface specifications.
- Develop and promote procedures and quality assurance standards.
- Prepare technical documentation and specifications for new or proposed applications to clarify intended functionality.
- Support the application of project management policies, standards, and controls so deliverables are met within scope, budget, time, and resource limits.
- Contribute to the preparation and upkeep of documentation, standards, and user guides in line with documentation policy.
- Follow existing standards, policies, and governance requirements.
- Translate user needs and current system behavior into effective solutions, whether by enhancing existing platforms or introducing new ones.
- Use knowledge of system architecture and constraints to choose practical problem-solving approaches that fit resource and timeline realities.
- Assess changes carefully to ensure alignment with long-term planning and approved strategy.
- Identify your own development needs and pursue learning opportunities to stay current in the field.
- Comply with legal, regulatory, and internal controls, including AML & CTF, sanctions, data protection, fraud control, whistleblowing, conflict of interest, and insider dealing requirements.
- Perform responsibilities under the Three Lines of Defence framework, including identifying, monitoring, managing, and reporting risk.
- Support conduct-risk expectations and good client outcomes.
- Assist with RCSA, KRI, incident reporting, and remediation activities as required.
- Complete mandatory internal training and maintain the competence required for the role.
- Attend mandatory seminars, both internal and external, when instructed.
- Protect data confidentiality and ensure sensitive information is only shared on a need-to-know basis with authorized stakeholders.
- Maintain professional standards that protect QNB’s reputation and market position.
- Carry out additional related duties and ad hoc activities as assigned by management.
Education and Experience
The role requires a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, along with at least 4 years of experience in financial services, particularly in web or mobile application development. Strong hands-on experience with core banking applications, including IBM System i, is expected. Relevant training courses and certifications in systems technology are also required.
