Role overview
Bank of Ireland’s Advanced Analytics function is looking for an AI Engineer - Data Scientist to help accelerate digital transformation across the organisation. This is a highly visible position where you will contribute to end-to-end data science work, applying statistical methods and both supervised and unsupervised machine learning to structured and unstructured data from multiple sources. The aim is to turn data into actionable value for customers, colleagues and partners.
Key responsibilities
- Analyse customer behaviour by studying activity, product usage and transaction trends, then convert the findings into practical business recommendations.
- Design, deploy and oversee machine learning models that improve decision-making and support business objectives.
- Develop robust data solutions, including new datasets and features, to make analytics more scalable and dependable.
- Partner with teams across the bank to promote effective use of the Enterprise Data Warehouse, Data Lake and other data platforms.
- Build clear dashboards and visual reports, and work with senior stakeholders to understand issues and shape effective solutions.
What will help you stand out
The ideal candidate brings proven analytics experience and has worked with several machine learning approaches, including tree-based methods, supervised models, ensemble techniques and unsupervised learning. You should enjoy solving commercial problems with data, be comfortable making complex information understandable, and have hands-on experience with Python, SQL, large datasets and contemporary analytics tools. Experience with MLOps, model monitoring and explainability is important. Strong communication, collaboration, adaptability and good prioritisation skills are also valued.
Desirable experience
- Background in financial services data analytics and working with senior stakeholders.
- Exposure to AI/ML pipeline development, including clustering, classification, deep learning and/or stochastic modelling.
- Familiarity with LLMs, generative AI and agentic workflows.
Qualifications
A third-level qualification in mathematics, statistics, finance, IT or another discipline with a significant numerical component is required.
About the team
You will report to the Chief Data & Analytics Officer (CDAO) and join the Advanced Analytics team, which owns the development and delivery of the bank’s data analytics strategy. The role will focus on delivering value-led analytics and AI initiatives aligned to the Group’s strategic ambitions, while also helping define frameworks, tools and standards that support Bank of Ireland’s goal of becoming a truly data-driven organisation.
Location and working arrangement
This position is hybrid. It can be carried out from anywhere in the Republic of Ireland, with the main office based at Baggot Plaza. Travel will be needed for in-person collaboration, and the exact cadence will be agreed with the manager.
