Overview
This is an executive-level opportunity with a major international engineering and construction business operating across Northern Europe. The role is designed for a senior leader who can steer project and construction management standards, improve delivery performance, and strengthen capability across a wide portfolio of large capital projects.
Working in a matrix environment, you will serve as the functional lead for Project & Construction Management, partnering with regional leadership, operations teams, and senior stakeholders to ensure governance, consistency, and continuous improvement across multiple countries.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide regional leadership for the Project & Construction Management function across Northern Europe.
- Create and roll out the regional PMCM strategy so it supports broader business priorities.
- Own the functional standards, governance model, and best-practice approach for project and construction management.
- Build a high-performance culture focused on accountability, operational excellence, and ongoing improvement.
- Enable operating teams to deliver complex engineering and construction work safely, on schedule, and within budget.
- Set up and sustain consistent project management and construction management processes across the region.
- Track project results using delivery KPIs and ensure consistency in cost, schedule, quality, and commercial performance.
- Spot execution risks early and put mitigation plans in place to improve certainty and reduce commercial exposure.
- Strengthen governance and compliance across all project portfolios.
- Guide, coach, and set strategic direction for teams covering Project Management, Construction Management, Risk, and Project Setup.
- Develop organisational capability through mentoring, succession planning, and professional growth initiatives.
- Lead workforce planning, improve resource use, and support retention of key talent.
- Encourage collaboration across business units, disciplines, and geographies.
- Build productive relationships with executive leaders, operational teams, clients, and external partners.
- Influence senior stakeholders within a complex matrix structure.
- Support business expansion by aligning delivery capability with strategic goals.
- Represent the PMCM function at executive forums across the organisation.
- Drive improvement efforts in project delivery, construction execution, safety, and governance.
- Promote strong practice across EPC, EPCM, Design & Build, and Construction Management delivery models.
- Support the creation of construction management methods, standards, and training programmes.
- Lead initiatives that enhance safety performance, predictability, resource utilisation, and overall efficiency.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a closely related field is required.
- A professional safety certification such as OSHA 10/30 or an equivalent qualification is a plus.
- You should bring at least 20 years of experience leading major engineering or construction projects in EPC, EPCM, or similar delivery settings.
- Prior leadership experience at Senior Director, Executive, or Vice President level in large engineering or construction organisations is expected.
- You must have successfully led complex capital programmes worth multiple billions of euros across several countries.
- A strong track record in project delivery, construction management, and enterprise transformation is essential.
- Deep experience in building governance frameworks, project management systems, and operating standards is required.
- You need a solid understanding of construction sequencing, project packaging, multidisciplinary site coordination, and delivery approaches.
- Experience leading teams in matrix organisations is important.
- Commercial judgement must be strong, with the ability to balance strategic leadership and day-to-day delivery needs.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and executive-level influencing ability are necessary.
- Strong analytical skills are needed for scheduling, budgeting, resource planning, and risk control.
- Fluency in English is mandatory; German would be beneficial.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint, is required.
What’s Offered
- An executive leadership role with a globally recognised engineering and construction organisation.
- The chance to shape project delivery excellence across a significant European region.
- Opportunity to lead transformation, governance improvement, and capability building.
- Exposure to major programmes in high-tech, advanced manufacturing, life sciences, and mission-critical sectors.
- A competitive executive compensation package with strong long-term career prospects.
