The City Operations Portfolio in Golden Grove provides essential frontline services that help keep the community clean, safe, and well maintained every day. An opportunity is available to join the Civil Maintenance team as a Street Sweeper Operator, supporting street cleaning across the City.

About the role

Reporting to the Team Leader Civil Maintenance, this position focuses on enhancing public amenity by safely operating street sweepers and delivering both scheduled and reactive street sweeping services.

Key duties

• Operate street sweepers safely in accordance with the planned sweeping schedule.
• Use the Council’s digital reporting platform to log swept areas and record any obstructions.
• Run plant and equipment in line with Safe Work Procedures.
• Dispose of collected street sweeping waste at an approved Council facility.
• Attend to customer service requests, environmental spills, and traffic incidents.
• Carry out pre-start inspections, including checks on brushes, lubrication, tyres, oil, coolant, and workshop service requirements.
• Support and coach new team members as they come on board.
• Work cooperatively with others, follow Council policies, and escalate risks where needed.

What we are looking for

The ideal candidate will have practical experience operating heavy plant, mobile plant, or street sweeping machinery in civil maintenance, local government, or a comparable operational setting. You should be confident driving a street sweeper for extended periods, exercise sound judgement, show initiative, and apply practical problem-solving skills.

A strong focus on Work Health and Safety is essential, along with safe plant operation, hazard reporting, and responsible work practices around traffic, pedestrians, and the public. You should also have good mechanical awareness, be able to complete pre-start checks, identify issues, and report defects without delay.

This role also requires solid planning, communication, customer service, and IT abilities, including using corporate systems for everyday tasks. You must be willing to work a rotating shift roster and participate in a stand-by roster for occasional after-hours callouts.

Requirements and qualifications

• Current MR licence.
• White Card (Work safely in the construction industry).
• Willingness to complete a pre-employment medical assessment and national police check.

Salary and conditions

The salary range for this position is $76,590 to $77,848 per year, plus superannuation guarantee. Final remuneration will be negotiated based on the successful candidate’s skills, experience, and qualifications.
