Role summary

District Wharf Properties, LLC is hiring a Staff Accountant to support its accounting function for The District Wharf, a 3.2 million square foot mixed-use development on the Potomac River that includes retail, residential, office, hotel, maritime, and entertainment components.

What you'll do

  • Handle month-end closing activities for several entities within the Wharf portfolio.
  • Post recurring monthly journal entries and prepare or reconcile balance sheet accounts.
  • Partner with property managers to make sure accounting records for Wharf properties remain accurate.
  • Process check deposits across multiple bank accounts.
  • Complete bank reconciliations for numerous accounts.
  • Prepare intercompany billing for several Wharf entities.
  • Upload and categorize accounts payable for multiple entities and assist with check runs and payments.
  • Create quarterly workpaper support for the consolidated Wharf entity.
  • Assist with the annual audit process.
  • Take on additional projects and duties as needed.

Skills and experience needed

  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance is preferred.
  • 2 to 5 years of accounting experience is preferred, especially with accounts payable, accounts receivable, or general ledger work.
  • Strong command of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, is required.
  • Background in real estate accounting, MRI, or AvidXchange is an advantage.
  • Strong analytical ability, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills are important.
  • You should be highly organized, accurate, and detail-oriented.
