Role overview

This role is for a senior AMI cybersecurity and OT engineer who will secure the full smart metering ecosystem, including meters, gateways, HES/MDMS platforms, and related networks. The position focuses on building and running cybersecurity controls across IT and OT environments in line with IEC 62443, DOE UAE, UAE IA, NIST, and ISO 27001. Core priorities include security architecture, PKI/KMS, secure communications, threat monitoring, and maintaining confidentiality, integrity, and availability across the system.

General responsibilities

• Support the company’s policies, systems, procedures, controls, and delegated authorities, while ensuring legal and procedural requirements are met and service delivery remains efficient, accurate, and cost conscious.
• Prepare recurring management and progress updates on time and in line with internal standards so leadership can track initiatives and make informed decisions.
• Complete all assigned reporting and compliance-related tasks within required timelines.

Job-specific responsibilities

• Design and strengthen a dependable OT cybersecurity architecture and provide specialist guidance for spotting, tracking, and resolving threats against OT systems and assets.
• Create, refine, and maintain OT cybersecurity policies, procedures, systems, and tools.
• Serve as the main cybersecurity contact for AMI meter and field-device matters, working closely with IT/OT teams and contractors.
• Help implement secure communications for meters using standards such as DLMS/COSEM, TLS/VPN, and encryption.
• Coordinate with IT/OT stakeholders on PKI/KMS, access management, and network-security needs for meter integration.
• Check that security capabilities on meters and gateways are correctly configured during onboarding and rollout.
• Help define and verify secure data movement across the Meter–Gateway–HES/MDMS layers.
• Support access-control design, including RBAC and MFA, for meter-related platforms in coordination with IT teams.
• Review meter-level security alerts and assist with SIEM use cases, log validation, initial incident analysis, and SOC integration.
• Take part in risk reviews, vulnerability identification, security assessments, and audits related to AMI field devices.
• Identify attack paths and intrusion risks, then help plan preventive and corrective actions.
• Assist incident-response efforts by coordinating with IT/OT teams on meter-related security events.
• Collaborate with vendors and contractors to ensure cybersecurity obligations are met during deployment and ongoing operations.

Essential requirements

• A bachelor’s degree in engineering or information technology.
• At least 8 years of relevant professional experience.
• Background in AMI or smart metering environments, including meters, HES, MDMS, and gateways.
• Practical knowledge of OT cybersecurity frameworks and standards such as IEC 62443, NIST, and ISO 27001.
• Professional information security certification is preferred, such as CIA, CISA, CISSP, IEC 62443, SANS GICSP, or CISM.
• Strong understanding of secure communications and key management, including DLMS/COSEM, TLS, VPN, PKI, KMS, and HSM.
• Experience with telecom-connected AMI setups such as M2M/APN, MPLS, and utility-scale deployments.
• Awareness of cloud-enabled OT/AMI architectures, including hybrid-cloud and secure integration patterns.
