Software Engineer I - Backend - Message Security Products

Role overview

Abnormal AI is hiring a motivated backend software engineer to join its Email Productivity team in Singapore. The team is responsible for building and maintaining the Email Productivity product, a core service that helps customers handle email more efficiently. In this role, you will help ship new capabilities, strengthen reliability, and support the product’s day-to-day health. You’ll work on backend systems, learn from experienced engineers, and tackle engineering problems tied to large-scale email processing. What you will work on

• Designing and developing new backend features for the Email Productivity product.
• Improving platform reliability and helping operate systems in production.
• Building and supporting software for high-volume email processing.
• Working collaboratively with teammates across distributed locations.
• Balancing feature development with operational ownership of delivered components.

Required background

• A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Applied Sciences, Information Systems, or a closely related engineering discipline.
• At least 1 year of professional experience in backend development and distributed systems, including software design and implementation.
• Comfort working both independently and in team settings on a regular basis.
• Experience collaborating with distributed teams using clear written and asynchronous communication.
• Hands-on experience creating features and components from the ground up and supporting them after release.

Preferred experience

• Exposure to the team’s technology stack, including Python, Go, AWS, Kubernetes, Django, Spark, and Prometheus.
• At least 1 year of programming experience in Golang.
• Working knowledge of AWS services and common deployment practices.
• Experience guiding a small team to deliver a feature or component from start to finish.
