About ElevenLabs

ElevenLabs is an AI research and product company that is changing the way people interact with technology. Founded in January 2023, it introduced the first human-like AI voice model and now supports millions of users and thousands of businesses, from fast-growing startups to major enterprises such as Deutsche Telekom and Meta. The company has raised $781M in funding, with a last reported valuation of $11B, and has backing from investors including Andreessen Horowitz, ICONIQ Growth, and Sequoia.

Platforms

ElevenLabs has expanded beyond voice into three core product areas:

  • ElevenAgents: Helps businesses create smooth, intelligent customer experiences with the integrations, testing, monitoring, and reliability needed to run voice and chat agents at scale.
  • ElevenCreative: Gives creators and marketers tools to generate and edit speech, music, images, and video in more than 70 languages.
  • ElevenAPI: Provides developers with access to leading AI audio foundation models.

How They Work

  • Fast-paced execution: Teams move quickly, test often, work autonomously, and keep bureaucracy to a minimum.
  • Impact over titles: The company does not rely on formal job titles; contribution matters more than hierarchy, and no task is considered too small or too large.
  • AI-first mindset: AI is used across the organization to improve speed and quality, from engineering to growth and operations.
  • Quality focus: Standards are expected to match the excellence of the company’s AI models.
  • Global-first approach: Talent is prioritized over geography.

What the Company Offers

  • Innovative environment: Join a rare opportunity to help shape the future of AI with a team pushing technical boundaries.
  • Room to grow: The role offers chances to make impact well beyond the immediate scope of work.
  • Learning support: Professional development is supported through an annual discretionary stipend.
  • Travel for connection: An annual discretionary stipend is provided to meet colleagues in person each year.
  • Annual company offsite: The full team gathers yearly in a new location; previous offsites were held in Croatia and Italy.
  • Co-working support: A monthly co-working stipend is available for people not near a main hub.

About the Role

The company is seeking an experienced AI Safety Engineer to lead the rollout and day-to-day operation of automated moderation and guardrail systems that protect the platform and its users across multimodal experiences. In this product ownership role, you will own the technical execution of safety systems end to end, covering architecture, deployment, and monitoring. You will work with ML and full-stack engineers to create production-ready safety infrastructure from scratch, bridging research and real-world implementation to ensure the systems are resilient, measurable, and able to scale.

Responsibilities

  • Build scalable backend systems for content moderation, abuse detection, and agent guardrails, including production deployment of AI/ML models.
  • Design APIs, data pipelines, and service architectures that support both real-time and batch moderation operations.
  • Create monitoring, alerting, and observability frameworks, and define SLIs, SLOs, and performance targets.
  • Collaborate with ML engineers to move research models into production and connect them across the product portfolio.
  • Shape technical direction and help define the safety roadmap for next-generation guardrails built for precision and scale.

Requirements

  • At least 6 years of backend software engineering experience building systems for production at scale.
  • Strong hands-on backend background, including distributed systems, APIs, data pipelines, and Python, especially asynchronous Python and backend frameworks.
  • Solid infrastructure and DevOps capability with cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP, plus Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD workflows.
  • Experience designing observable systems and working with monitoring tools like Prometheus and Grafana.
  • Proven ability to take systems or products from zero to one with measurable outcomes, including deployment or close collaboration with ML/AI systems in production.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience in Trust & Safety, content moderation, or integrity engineering.
  • Experience with MLOps, including ML model deployment, monitoring, and version control.
  • Exposure to SQL, data analysis tools, real-time streaming systems such as Kafka or Redis, or event-driven architecture.
  • Familiarity with React or other modern frontend frameworks.

Location

This position is fully remote and can be performed from anywhere in the world. Candidates who prefer an office setting may also work from the company’s offices in London, New York, San Francisco, or Warsaw.
