Role overview
The University of Marburg, established in 1527, is seeking a Research Assistant for its Department of Physics, within the Semiconductor Photonics research group led by Prof. Dr. Martin Koch. The role supports a third-party research initiative called ÜGEFTT, which is dedicated to creating THz-based sensor technology for monitoring freeze-drying systems in cooperation with an industry partner.
Position details
This is a fixed-term appointment starting as soon as possible and ending on 31 July 2027. The role is part-time at 65% of standard working hours and is paid according to TV-H E 13 at 65%. The job reference number is fb13-0011-wmz-2026.
Key responsibilities
The position centers on the design, setup, and validation of prototype systems built around innovative 300 GHz transceivers. The selected candidate will also work on integrating these prototypes into the partner laboratory and carrying out tests and measurements to verify performance.
Candidate profile
Applicants should hold an MSc degree, or an equivalent qualification, in electrical engineering or a closely related discipline. Practical knowledge of microwave technology is required. Prior exposure to FMCW systems and familiarity with relevant simulation tools would be an advantage, as would programming skills in a high-level language.
Employment conditions
This is a fixed-term project role. The employment contract is not governed by Section 2(1) of the German Academic Fixed-Term Contract Act (WissZeitVG).
What the university offers
Employees can use the Landesticket Hessen for free public transport across the state, benefit from family support services, and take advantage of flexible working arrangements designed to help maintain a healthy balance between professional and personal life. The university also notes that reduced working time may be possible.
Equal opportunity and accessibility
The university encourages women to apply and gives preference to female candidates in areas where women are underrepresented, provided qualifications are equal. As a certified family-friendly university, it supports staff in managing family and career responsibilities. Applicants with disabilities, as defined under Section 2(2) and (3) of Book IX of the Social Security Code (SGB IX), will also be given preference when qualifications are equivalent. Interview and application-related expenses cannot be reimbursed.
Application information
Applicants should submit their application by 12 July 2026. For further information, contact Prof. Dr. Martin Koch at +49 6421-28 22119 or halbleiterphotonik@physik.uni-marburg.de.
