Quantity Surveyor

Role overview

You will be part of a civil engineering and construction contractor in Cork that delivers groundworks, utility works including water, sewer, stormwater and electrical ducting, site development, and specialist solutions such as Greenwall retaining structures and ICF construction. The business places strong emphasis on quality, safety, dependable delivery, and working within accredited quality, environmental, and health and safety systems.

Key responsibilities

• Develop cost plans, bills of quantities, measurements, and tender packs for civil engineering and groundworks projects.
• Take the lead on sourcing subcontractors and suppliers, including issuing enquiries, comparing submissions, and making commercial recommendations.
• Handle contract administration tasks such as valuations, payment applications, variation management, change control, claims, and final accounts.
• Track project costs, prepare forecasts and cashflow updates, and maintain budget control from start to finish.
• Review construction techniques, material choices, and pricing alternatives to support value engineering and reduce commercial risk.
• Watch financial performance on site, identify differences against estimates, and flag emerging commercial issues early.
• Work in close coordination with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to keep commercial, programme, and technical elements aligned.
• Support compliance with quality, environmental, and health and safety requirements across all commercial activities.

Candidate profile

The ideal applicant has at least 4 years of experience in quantity surveying and holds a degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics, or a similar qualification. Background in civil engineering or groundworks is expected.

You should be confident in measurement, cost control, contract administration, and financial reporting. Experience with utilities, drainage, earthworks, or contemporary construction methods will be useful. Strong ability with QS software and Excel, along with good communication and negotiation skills, is also required.
