Opportunity
Save the Children, working alongside Balaka District Council, is looking for an experienced and driven Project Coordinator to steer delivery of the TiKuMA Education Project in Balaka District. The post will be stationed at the Balaka District Education Office and will report to the Director of Education, Youth and Sports.
The selected person will provide overall project direction and management, helping ensure strong implementation, timely achievement of targets, effective collaboration, and compliance with both donor and government expectations. The role will involve close coordination with government offices, community-based structures, development partners, and other stakeholders to improve education outcomes for children in Balaka District.
This position includes responsibility for project planning, delivery, monitoring, reporting, budgeting, stakeholder coordination, capacity building, donor liaison, and team supervision, with safeguarding embedded across all activities.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the project strategically and manage day-to-day implementation to ensure quality results.
- Coordinate with government entities, community groups, partners, and other stakeholders.
- Prepare and track plans, budgets, work progress, monitoring updates, and reports.
- Support timely achievement of project objectives in line with donor and government requirements.
- Strengthen the capacity of project stakeholders and team members where needed.
- Maintain effective donor coordination and uphold compliance standards.
- Integrate child safeguarding principles into all project activities and decision-making.
- Provide leadership to the project team and support collaboration across functions.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in Education or another relevant field.
- Experience teaching at primary or secondary school level.
- Minimum four years of work in education programming.
- Proven background in coordinating development projects and handling partnerships.
- Strong ability to lead teams, coordinate activities, and manage people effectively.
- Working knowledge of project planning, monitoring, budgeting, and reporting.
- Good stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills.
- Strong spoken and written communication, presentation, analysis, and report-writing abilities.
- High standards of professionalism, integrity, confidentiality, and accuracy.
- Clear commitment to children’s rights and safeguarding.
- Competence in Microsoft Office and other computer applications.
- Willingness to travel within project areas as required.
Additional information
During a major humanitarian emergency, the post holder may need to take on duties outside the normal role profile and work adjusted hours as required.
