Role overview
We are looking for a Payroll Officer to support a NSW government organisation in Penrith, New South Wales. This is a temporary contract role running through 25 September 2026, with the possibility of an extension. The position offers hybrid working flexibility.
The pay rate is $45.79 per hour plus superannuation.
What the role involves
- Processing payroll every week by checking timesheets, changes, and other payroll inputs before entering them into the Empower system.
- Managing leave requests by reviewing balances and making sure sick leave is handled in line with the relevant rules and policies.
- Handling payroll and general queries from employees, members of the public, and external parties such as banks.
- Preparing HR and payroll paperwork, including employment letters and separation certificates.
- Maintaining payroll and personnel files by checking, filing, storing, and archiving records securely.
- Completing all work in line with legislation, statutory obligations, and organisational policies.
- Organising your own workload effectively, communicating in a positive way, and helping create a productive team environment.
What we are looking for
The ideal candidate will be a reliable Payroll Officer with solid hands-on experience in end-to-end payroll processing. Prior local government exposure is preferred. Familiarity with UKG and Empower is an advantage, though it is not essential. Strong communication and customer service skills are also important.
