Role overview
CareTalk Health is a fully remote virtual medical practice serving patients across the United States. The organization works with Medicare Advantage plans to complete Annual Wellness Visits and address care gaps, with a focus on making virtual care feel simple, dependable, and personal.
The Patient Support Specialist is the first contact for patients in the virtual clinic. This person helps prepare patients for visits, coordinates the transition to the clinical team, and keeps the flow of care moving efficiently. The role is essential to patient satisfaction, schedule reliability, and a smooth virtual experience.
This is a full-time W2 remote position based in the United States. Multiple openings are available. Working hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM EST, and pay is $17 per hour.
Key responsibilities
- Act as a central point of coordination across several care teams to make sure patients reach the right clinician at the right time.
- Keep appointments moving across multiple schedules and support steady patient engagement throughout the day.
- Use call-handling tools to connect patients to the right care team member and share intake details in real time.
- Alert the RN when a patient is ready, track visit progress, and anticipate the next handoff to reduce delays.
- Monitor call flow across teams and support timely transfers from RN to provider.
- Raise scheduling issues, clinical concerns, or patient-related problems quickly so care quality and efficiency are protected.
- Place outbound calls to confirm appointments, verify patient identity, and check readiness for the visit.
- Complete pre-visit intake, including demographics, consent, and any required screening questions.
- Carry out technology checks when needed, such as confirming audio and video readiness.
- Maintain a professional and welcoming tone that builds trust and supports a positive patient experience.
- Handle inbound calls from patients seeking help with visit questions, scheduling, or technical navigation.
- Record outreach, intake, routing, and handoff details accurately in the relevant systems.
- Share live updates with the clinical team about patient status and any scheduling changes.
- Help improve patient satisfaction by answering questions or directing concerns to the right resource.
- Use workflow tools to route patients correctly.
- Resolve minor technical issues, such as audio or video problems, and escalate larger issues when required.
- Communicate with patients and team members through internal chat or phone to coordinate care activities.
Requirements
- Prior experience in healthcare or customer service is required.
- Strong comfort with digital tools and the ability to work across multiple platforms such as Zoom, Teams, and EHR/CRM systems.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
- Ability to juggle multiple tasks, set priorities, and stay composed in a fast-paced virtual setting.
- Experience in telehealth, a medical office, or remote care delivery is preferred.
- Working knowledge of HIPAA and patient privacy rules is preferred.
- Bilingual ability in English and Spanish, or another language, is an advantage.
- Must work from a home office with reliable internet and a secure, private workspace.
- The role may require being on camera at any time.
- Computer must be Windows or Apple only; Chromebooks, Linux machines, and smartphones are not accepted.
- Computer operating system must be at least Windows 10 or MacOS 13.
- Wired headphones are required.
- Internet must meet at least 50 Mbps download and 20 Mbps upload, with a wired ethernet connection directly to the router.
- Google Chrome must be used with Amazon Workspaces, regardless of the device.
- A webcam is required for video calls; laptops with built-in webcams are acceptable.
- A second monitor is recommended for laptop users, and dual monitors are recommended for desktop users.
