National Cadet Pilot Programme (Emiratisation)

Job Purpose

This programme is designed to develop Emirati nationals into highly skilled pilots who can represent the country across more than 140 destinations. Emirates is seeking driven young Emiratis with strong commitment and enthusiasm to join the National Cadet Pilot Programme and train at the Emirates Flight Training Academy in Dubai.

What the Programme Includes

This is a fully sponsored training pathway that supports participants for at least four years. The package covers training costs, study materials, accommodation, uniforms, and three meals a day.

Participants begin with no flying experience and progress through ground instruction and flight training in a multi-engine, multi-crew aircraft environment. After completing the programme, cadets become qualified to serve as pilots on Emirates’ modern fleet, with the opportunity to advance into line flying for the world’s largest international airline.

Selection Process

Candidates who meet the initial criteria will move through several assessment stages.

• Stage 1: Mathematics and physics assessments, plus a medical pre-screen at EK Clinic.
• Stage 2: Compass evaluation, mental arithmetic, aviation English, and psychometric testing, including abstract reasoning and spatial reasoning.
• Stage 3: Panel interview and a GCAA medical examination.

Training Pathway

• Phase 1 – Ground School (around 12 months): Training takes place at Emirates Flight Training Academy using advanced technology and virtual reality tools.
• Phase 2 – Flight Training (around 12 months): Cadets complete about 274 hours of flying and simulator training at Emirates Flight Training Academy. By the end of this phase, they receive a Commercial Pilot Licence (Frozen ATPL), Multi-Instrument Rating (CPL/Multi IR), Multi Crew Cooperation Course (MCC), and Jet Orientation Course certificates.
• Phase 3 – Type Rating (around 3 months): Aircraft conversion and type rating are completed at Emirates Training College.
• Phase 4 – Line Training (around 8 months): Cadets complete line training on the Emirates widebody aircraft they have been prepared for and work toward a Frozen Air Transport Pilot Licence approved by the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority.
• First Officer: After the programme, pilots fly with Emirates’ youngest and most modern aircraft fleet as line pilots.

Candidate Criteria

Applicants must have completed National Service before joining. They must also be at least 160 cm tall, medically fit, and have a BMI of 29 or below. A valid UAE passport and Khulasat Al Qaid are required.

Eligibility Requirements

For high school graduates in the scientific stream: Applicants must be 18 to 21 years old, have a minimum high school score of 80%, and have completed their final year in chemistry, physics, or mathematics. Transcripts and high school certificates will be reviewed. An IELTS score of 6.0 is required at the time of application, with at least 5.5 in each component, or a TOEFL score of PBT 510 / IBT 6.5.

For degree holders (diploma and above): Applicants must be 22 to 26 years old, hold a minimum GPA of 3.0 in a scientific or engineering major, and meet the same English language requirement of IELTS 6.0 with at least 5.5 per element, or TOEFL score of PBT 510 / IBT 6.5.

Salary and Benefits

• Phase 1 – Ground School (12 months): AED 6,365, made up of basic pay and fixed allowances. Meals and accommodation are also provided at EFTA.
• Phase 2 – Flight Training (12 months): AED 6,365, made up of basic pay and fixed allowances. Meals and accommodation are also provided at EFTA.
• Phase 3 – Type Rating (3 months): AED 18,335, made up of basic pay and fixed allowances.
• Phase 4 – Line Training (8 months): AED 31,745, made up of basic pay and fixed allowances.
• First Officer: AED 52,105, made up of basic pay and fixed allowances.
