Role summary
Reporting to the Chief Communications Officer and partnering closely with the department leadership team, the Manager, Communications & PR will support a dedicated communications function that operates independently at the firm level. The position plays a key role in guiding communications professionals, advising lawyers and professional staff, and building productive relationships with media contacts, internal colleagues, and external vendors across practice areas such as litigation, investigations, and government regulatory work.
Key responsibilities
- Partner with lawyers to identify, shape, and deliver communications initiatives such as media interviews, thought leadership, speaking opportunities, and events that reinforce the firm’s mission and reputation.
- Develop and sustain relationships with journalists at priority media outlets, create opportunities for partners to connect with reporters, and prepare lawyers for interviews.
- Write and refine press releases, talking points, internal memos, bylined articles, and related communication materials.
- Create and edit copy for the firm’s website, intranet, internal messaging, and other communication channels.
- Contribute to the planning and execution of social media campaigns that strengthen the firm’s brand presence.
- Work with external PR consultants, oversee their work, and make sure all output aligns with firm expectations and goals.
- Support inclusion initiatives and help promote the firm’s pro bono efforts.
- Coordinate award submissions for individual attorneys, the firm, and specific practice groups.
- Collaborate with relationship partners to help raise the profile of in-house counsel at client organizations.
- Oversee the placement process for bylined articles.
- Perform effectively in a fast-moving, high-volume environment.
- Maintain strong quality control, close attention to detail, and the ability to meet demanding deadlines.
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree is required.
- At least 5 to 7 years of experience in communications management or a comparable role.
- Background in the legal sector, government, journalism, or a PR agency is strongly preferred.
- Excellent written and spoken communication abilities, along with strong accuracy and attention to detail.
- Advanced familiarity with social media platforms.

Compensation and benefits
The firm offers a competitive total rewards package that includes comprehensive health and wellbeing benefits as well as 401(k) profit sharing. The expected pay range for this position in New York is $135,000 to $190,000. The final offer will depend on factors such as qualifications, experience, geographic location, education, external market conditions, and internal equity considerations.
