Role overview
The position is based at Ringsend Toll Bridge, also referred to as the East-Link Toll Bridge, in Dublin’s docklands. This crossing sits on the R131 regional road and connects the city centre with the eastern side of Dublin and Dublin Port. It is the most easterly crossing of the Liffey and took the place of the historic ferries that served the location from 1655.
The bridge is an important part of Dublin’s transport network, linking key routes on both the north and south banks of the river.
What you will do
This role is focused on practical, day-to-day road and bridge upkeep, with responsibility for supporting emergency cover when needed.
- Carry out hands-on maintenance work for the project’s daily road maintenance needs.
- Be available for call-outs outside normal working hours to support emergency situations.
- Complete routine maintenance tasks such as daily equipment inspections, cash reconciliation, traffic management, winter maintenance, Tom Clarke Bridge maintenance, pavement repairs, weather-warning preparation, emergency response, bridge maintenance, cleaning internal areas such as booths, accident damage repairs to booms and related equipment, duty supervisor assistance, landscaping, grass cutting, weed control, litter collection, incident response, and general upkeep.
- Follow instructions from the Duty Supervisor and complete assigned maintenance work accordingly.
- Work in compliance with health and safety rules and practices.
Working conditions
- Night work may be required.
- Rostered 24/7 on-call cover is part of the role.
- The work is outdoors and may be carried out in difficult weather conditions.
- Hours can be irregular.
Qualifications and experience
Applicants should have a foundation in maintenance work and be able to show practical experience in one or more of the routine activities listed above.
- Second-level education is required.
- A Class C driving licence is required.
- A valid Safe Pass is required.
- Previous maintenance experience is essential.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience in at least one routine maintenance activity is required.
- A clear understanding of health and safety principles, along with commitment to safe working practices, is required.
Preferred background
- Current training or qualifications in traffic management are desirable.
- Additional health and safety training such as First Aid, Fire Warden, Manual Handling, or Safety Representative training is an advantage.
- Other relevant work-related qualifications or training will also be viewed positively.
- Experience in a similar position is preferred.
- Knowledge of standard methods, equipment, materials, tools, and practices used in road maintenance is desirable.
Other requirements
- C Licence is preferred.
- Work authorisation for Ireland is required.
- The role is based on site and requires in-person attendance.
