About the Role
This position supports transportation and freight operations for the Whitby metals recycling site. The successful candidate will help keep shipping structures current, support proposal negotiations, verify shipping procedures, request quotations, and maintain rate and freight-tracking tools.
What You’ll Do
- Coordinate dispatch of dump trailers and scows to move material into the Whitby Mill and Shredder as needed.
- Support the preparation, review, and verification of shipping processes and procedures.
- Assist in negotiating confidential contracts, rates, and service agreements with dump trailer and scow carriers, with a focus on cost effectiveness.
- Review, interpret, and share large volumes of sensitive and classified information.
- Evaluate new pricing proposals, market conditions, increases, and rate adjustments to judge carrier competitiveness.
- Work closely with transportation vendors, internal departments, site leaders, regional transportation managers, and mill shipping supervisors to gather and provide logistics information.
- Review and process transportation-related issues raised by customers, carriers, and internal teams.
- Prepare and submit freight claim documents to transportation vendors in line with policy, and share claim details with logistics, commercial, and finance teams as required.
- Help investigate payment variances and correct issues caused by data-entry errors.
- Provide additional support to shipping sites, sales teams, or customers as business needs arise.
What We’re Looking For
- A four-year degree in business administration or a related discipline from an accredited college or university.
- At least two years of logistics experience.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Access.
- Experience with database management.
- Ability to manage and process high volumes of information with accuracy.
- Strong problem-solving, multitasking, and customer service abilities.
