Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out police-related duties for the City Tow Vendor using computer systems and related access.
  • Provide clerical support and information services to the Police Department and citizens.
  • Use computers and fax machines to complete day-to-day work.
  • Copy, organize, and file documents and records.
  • Research issues and concerns connected to towed vehicles.
  • Record and update tow-related information in computer systems and paper logs, and check entries for accuracy.
  • Communicate clearly in writing and verbally with department staff, citizens, insurance companies, and multiple tow vendors, including the contracted city vendor team, while explaining policies and procedures.
  • Attend staff meetings and required in-service training, and complete the advanced IDACS certification course successfully.
  • Review computer data for accuracy, completeness, and usability before processing.
  • Enter warrants and file reports for lost or stolen handguns and missing persons outside regular business hours.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to type at least 30 words per minute.
  • Must be able to obtain and keep IDACS/NCIC certification.
  • Strong communication skills and solid computer operation ability.
  • Capacity to understand and follow department policies and procedures, local ordinances, and state and federal laws, especially those related to vehicle towing.
  • Strict confidentiality is required.
  • Must pass pre-employment screening, including a background check and drug screening.
  • Must agree to random drug testing.
  • Preferred: two years of work experience and/or education in clerical work, customer service, records maintenance, or computer operation.
