Role overview
Bulyanhulu Gold Mine is looking for a Geology Technician to support its exploration and underground production activities in Shinyanga. This position plays a hands-on role in monitoring daily underground ore output, tracking ore movement, carrying out geological face sampling, marking daily ore headings and backsights, inspecting stopes, sampling underground stockpiles, and handling other geology-related duties as required.
What the role involves
- Track daily underground ore production and movement to support accurate mine reporting.
- Carry out face sampling, underground stockpile sampling, and related geological field tasks.
- Mark ore headings and backsights, and inspect stopes on a daily basis.
- Support field mapping, drill site checks, drill site preparation, and other site activities assigned by the supervisor.
- Assist geologists with geology and geotechnical work as needed.
- Perform measurements, sample handling, dispatch, and storage for drilling, soil, and lithological materials.
- Maintain accurate records, reports, and filing systems to ensure traceability and compliance.
- Work in line with safety, environmental, and operational standards, including immediate action on unsafe practices.
- Travel to sites across Tanzania when operational needs require it.
Key requirements
- Follow all documented health, safety, and environmental procedures to maintain a safe workplace.
- Coordinate daily drilling logistics, including mobilising work crews and ensuring safety gear and consumables are available.
- Keep drilling program supplies and safety equipment adequately stocked to avoid disruption.
- Conduct RC, soil, trench, stream, and other sampling activities, along with core orientation, marking, processing, dispatch, and storage.
- Supervise field activities according to standard operating procedures, including drill pad preparation and drill rig setup.
- Collect drill core samples strictly according to SOPs and apply QA/QC practices to protect sample integrity.
- Prepare samples carefully before dispatch to prevent contamination, mixing, or loss.
- Produce timely and accurate geological data, daily updates, weekly reports, and supporting documentation.
- Record irregularities promptly and help improve sample quality, core recovery, and operational performance.
- Give constructive feedback to colleagues and management to support continuous improvement.
- Work in a corruption-free environment and uphold the company’s Journey to Zero safety expectations.
- Support reporting and investigation of high-potential incidents and stop unsafe behaviour immediately.
Qualifications and experience
- A diploma in geology from a recognised institution, or an equivalent qualification, is required.
- A valid Tanzanian driving licence is required, along with Bulyanhulu mine surface and underground driving permits.
- Applicants should be able to independently operate manual transmission light vehicles.
- Experience in a mining environment will be an added advantage.
