About the organisation

The Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) is an intergovernmental body that brings together major natural gas exporting nations to share knowledge, exchange experience, and strengthen cooperation. It works to encourage constructive dialogue between gas-producing and gas-consuming countries in support of stable and secure global gas markets.

The Forum’s members are Algeria, Bolivia, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Iran, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Russia, Trinidad and Tobago, the United Arab Emirates, and Venezuela. Its observers include Angola, Azerbaijan, Iraq, Malaysia, Mauritania, Mozambique, Peru, and Senegal. Together, the member countries hold 70% of the world’s proven natural gas reserves, account for 38% of marketed production, contribute 42% of global gas exports, and represent 47% of liquefied natural gas exports.

Role purpose

The General Relations Officer supports the International Affairs and Public Relations Office (IAPRO) by handling a wide range of communication, media, protocol, and outreach tasks. The role calls for strong capabilities in mass communication, media engagement, public advocacy, content creation, and multimedia production. It also involves crafting accurate and compelling messages for different audiences, managing digital channels, and supporting high-level meetings and international engagements in line with diplomatic and institutional standards.

Key responsibilities

  • Draft, edit, and proofread a wide variety of materials, including publications, reports, speeches, statements, and other official communication products.
  • Help organise and coordinate meetings and dialogue sessions with policy institutions, organisations, and other relevant stakeholders, while also nurturing professional relationships with outside experts and partner institutions.
  • Create, coordinate, and distribute outreach content such as brochures, media notes, audiovisual material, and other digital assets that support the Forum’s institutional profile and media relations.
  • Contribute research, background material, and written inputs for IAPRO activities, reports, concept notes, outreach initiatives, and other assignments requested by the Head of IAPRO.
  • Maintain and regularly update contact databases covering international organisations, institutions, and media outlets.
  • Provide communication, protocol, and coordination assistance during international meetings, conferences, forums, and outreach events.
  • Develop content plans and publishing runways, and manage the Forum’s digital and social media platforms to support communication goals.
  • Track and assess the reach and effectiveness of events and communication work using metrics, surveys, analytics, and regular monitoring of the website and social channels.
  • Organise and maintain a digital archive of videos, photos, recordings, presentations, and other audiovisual assets with proper indexing and accessibility.
  • Keep an updated calendar of events and activities to support forward planning and coordination of international commitments and outreach initiatives.
  • Coordinate the creation, production, and handling of communication and promotional items such as invitations, publications, brand materials, and event collateral with internal departments and other units.
  • Stay current on new communication tools, digital platforms, and multimedia solutions that can improve engagement for virtual and on-site events.
  • Carry out other reasonable duties that match the employee’s background, qualifications, and functional scope.
