Role overview

The Fireman position sits within Fire & Safety / Security Operations and is deployed at client premises across India. The role focuses on rapid response during fire and other emergency situations, reducing fire risks, and supporting day-to-day safety and security activity through inspections, drills, and adherence to fire compliance requirements.

Core responsibilities

• Carry out regular fire safety checks across the site, with extra attention to areas where hazards are more likely.
• Spot unsafe conditions or practices, report them promptly, and recommend corrective action.
• Make sure flammable materials are stored and handled according to safety standards.
• Verify that firefighting and life-safety systems such as extinguishers, hydrants, hose lines, sprinklers, alarms, smoke detectors, and emergency lighting are present, working, and easy to reach.
• Act quickly when a fire alarm or emergency alert is raised.
• Use firefighting tools and systems including extinguishers, hose reels, hydrants, foam equipment, and breathing apparatus.
• Support safe evacuation of people from the affected area and direct them to designated assembly points.
• Give first aid when needed and coordinate with paramedical staff during emergencies.
• Assist fire teams, civil authorities, and the local fire brigade during containment and recovery activities.
• Keep accurate records of incidents, inspections, and fire safety checks.
• Help maintain compliance with local fire safety rules, NBC requirements, and client-specific safety procedures.
• Support internal audits and third-party fire safety inspections.
• Take part in fire drills, evacuation practice, and emergency mock exercises.
• Train on-site staff on emergency actions and fire safety procedures, including demonstrations on how to use fire safety equipment.
• Inspect fire equipment every day and maintain service logs.
• Ensure emergency routes, exits, and doors remain unobstructed at all times.
• Coordinate with facility teams for upkeep of fire panels, sprinklers, pumps, and water tanks.

Working conditions

This is a rotational-shift role that includes day and night duty, along with weekends and holidays. The work environment is high-risk and requires the consistent use of PPE. The role demands continuous alertness and movement through the shift, and may involve climbing, lifting, and working in confined or elevated spaces during incidents.

Employment terms

The employer is G4S Secure Solutions India Pvt. Ltd. Deployment is at the client’s site, which may include industrial facilities, corporate offices, hospitals, malls, and warehouses. Uniform and equipment are provided by G4S. Compensation is offered as per industry standards and location norms. The role may be full-time or contractual depending on the client agreement.

Typical progression can move from Fireman to Senior Fireman, then to Fire & Safety Supervisor, Fire & Safety Officer, and Fire Safety Manager.

Qualifications and experience

A minimum qualification of 10th pass is required. A diploma or certificate in Fire Safety or Industrial Firefighting from a recognized institute is mandatory. Fireman training from a State Fire Services, Civil Defence, or other government-recognized institute is preferred, and Basic First Aid and CPR certification is also preferred. Candidates should have 2 to 5 years of experience in industrial, commercial, or institutional firefighting roles; however, freshers with formal fireman training may also be considered.

Skills and competencies

The role calls for strong knowledge of fire detection and suppression systems, calm decision-making under pressure, physical fitness, clear communication, and the ability to work as part of a disciplined team. Basic understanding of Hindi, English, or a regional language is useful for the job.
