Role overview
This position is based at Hawkhurst Residential Home in Blackburn, Lancashire. The home is purpose-built for 26 residents who live with a mix of physical and mental health needs, so the successful candidate must be patient, considerate, and respectful of each person’s abilities.
What the role offers
The employer provides a strong benefits package for this position, including hourly pay between £12.96 and £13.32 depending on qualification, access to training and progression through the Quality Matters team, a fully funded DBS check, holiday pay, a refer-a-friend bonus of up to £250 for each successful referral, and Blue Light Card access.
Main duties
- Handle residents’ personal clothing and household laundry to a consistently high standard.
- Carry out thermal disinfection correctly whenever required and follow infection control rules at all times.
- Iron and press clothing and linen so they are finished to a high standard.
- Check that residents’ clothes and household linen are kept in good repair, and report any concerns to the Hotel Services Manager or Care Home Manager.
- Keep the laundry area, equipment, and linen storage cupboards clean, organised, and hygienic, with adequate stock available.
- Interact professionally and politely with residents, colleagues, visiting professionals, family members, and other visitors.
- Follow all health and safety procedures and report any risks to the manager without delay.
- Take on other reasonable tasks as required to support changing business needs.
Who we’re looking for
The ideal candidate will genuinely care about supporting residents and want to make a meaningful difference each day. Previous experience in a domestic or laundry role is helpful but not required, as full training will be provided. Because many residents live with age-related conditions, life-limiting illnesses, physical disabilities, and dementia, applicants should be calm, understanding, and able to treat everyone with dignity and respect.
Additional information
This role supports residents who may need dignified care related to physical and mental health conditions, age-related needs, and dementia. Experience or awareness of dementia would be an advantage.
