Design Engineer

Role overview

A leading engineering and manufacturing business is looking for an experienced Design Engineer to become part of a growing team in County Galway, Ireland. This position is a strong fit for an engineer with 3 to 5 years of experience who has hands-on expertise in SolidWorks, project coordination, and mechanical design in a manufacturing or tooling setting.

What you will do

• Create and refine in-die tooling and specialised installation tooling for manual and automated production environments.
• Run several engineering projects at once, taking them from initial concept through data analysis, pricing, quotations, tool design, die reviews, manufacturing, assembly, testing, and final shipment.
• Assist with installation and commissioning tasks when needed.
• Prepare, revise, and manage technical drawings, engineering files, and design documentation.
• Work closely with Sales, Operations, Engineering, and customers to keep projects moving successfully.
• Support customer interactions, including remote project reviews and technical conversations.
• Keep Bills of Materials, routers, and engineering records updated in internal systems.
• Contribute to continuous improvement work aimed at improving quality, efficiency, and manufacturing performance.

What we are looking for

• 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in manufacturing, tooling, or mechanical design.
• Strong working knowledge of SolidWorks for CAD/CAM work.
• Demonstrated project management ability, including handling multiple assignments simultaneously.
• An engineering qualification; the specific discipline is flexible.
• Solid mechanical engineering understanding, with electrical knowledge considered an advantage.
• Exposure to CNC machining and/or press shop operations would be beneficial.
• Clear communication skills for working with internal teams and external customers.
• Well organised, detail-focused, and capable of working independently.
• Prepared to travel within Europe on short notice.

Tools and systems
