Role overview
WestJet’s communications function is a valued partner to the business, helping shape clear and effective messaging across the organization. As a Communications Advisor, you will work in a collaborative, high-performing team to provide communication guidance and support to different business units. The role reports to the Team Lead, Internal Communications and contributes to both daily communication priorities and larger company initiatives.
You will help design and deliver communication strategies and tactics that are timely, transparent, and engaging. Background in union communications, change management, external communications, or government relations would be an advantage.
Key responsibilities
- Advise on messaging and help lead internal communication plans that support wider business goals.
- Draft, refine, and coordinate communication materials so they are distributed on time and in the right way.
- Assess how well internal communications are performing, identify trends, and share recommendations with stakeholders.
- Carry out communication strategies by creating written and produced materials that strengthen trust and engagement.
- Contribute content for multiple communication channels.
Experience and qualifications
The ideal candidate brings around 5 years of experience in corporate communications, internal communications, and stakeholder engagement, with a strong track record of producing clear, strategic content for different channels.
Post-secondary education in communications, public relations, journalism, business, or an equivalent background is required.
Experience advising leaders is important, along with the ability to write quickly, clearly, and concisely, even under tight deadlines.
A working knowledge of Canadian Press style is expected. Strong relationship-building ability and experience coordinating with a range of stakeholders are also needed. Experience using SharePoint and/or Viva Engage is an asset.
