Role Overview
The Buyer for the Active Segment is responsible for building a product assortment that reflects priority trends and key style elements on the site. This role requires strong knowledge of women’s activewear and current market trends, along with the ability to work independently while balancing planning, customer demand, competitor activity, and merchandising goals.
The position involves reviewing historical sales and inventory levels to determine product needs, managing re-cuts, re-orders, and re-colors, and keeping a close eye on deadlines and calendar milestones. The Buyer will also oversee category budgets and SKU management, identify in-season opportunities and risks, and support a Buying Assistant. In addition, the role requires managing buys, purchase orders, and order approvals in coordination with leadership and the analyst team.
Key Responsibilities
- Curate and maintain an assortment that highlights important fashion trends and product priorities for the site.
- Apply strong knowledge of women’s activewear brands and trend direction when making buying decisions.
- Plan and select assortment mixes based on customer demand, market trends, competitive positioning, and merchandising objectives.
- Analyze sales history and inventory data to identify product gaps and buying needs.
- Manage re-cuts, re-orders, and re-colors while staying on schedule and meeting critical deadlines.
- Oversee category budgets and SKU counts with a strong focus on macro budget goals.
- Spot in-season opportunities and risks by reviewing sales performance and inventory movement.
- Train, guide, and support the Buying Assistant.
- Balance multiple brands and business priorities while maintaining a detail-oriented and strategic approach.
- Review sales outcomes to determine markdown timing and address slow-selling items through return authorization activity.
- Handle buys, purchase orders, and order approvals in partnership with upper management and analysts.
Requirements
- 1–3 years of women’s buying experience.
- Prior work experience as a Buyer is required.
- Strong command of retail math, including markup, margin, planning, open-to-buy, and inventory productivity measures.
- Ability to negotiate effectively with vendors on return authorizations, sell-through guarantees, and trade discounts.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced setting with tight timelines.
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
- Analytical thinking, sound judgment, creativity, and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to build effective, collaborative relationships across teams and functions.
- Strong interest in and understanding of industry trends.
- Proficiency with email, preferably Gmail, and Microsoft Office.
- Bachelor’s degree in Fashion or Business is preferred.
- 3–5 years of women’s buying experience is preferred, especially within the activewear segment.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision in a dynamic environment.

Compensation
For California-based hires, the estimated annual salary range for this position is $80,000 to $85,000.
