About the company
Assurant is a global protection and servicing business that works with leading brands to support connected devices, homes, vehicles, and commercial equipment. The organisation is built around a collaborative culture where people are encouraged to think creatively, work with a wide range of colleagues, and contribute to practical, effective outcomes.
The company describes its values as common sense, common decency, uncommon thinking, and uncommon results. It also highlights an inclusive environment with teams from many countries, cultures, and backgrounds.
Role overview
This position is for a Business Systems Analyst who can combine business and process analysis with technical systems analysis. The role is central to the delivery function and involves working with stakeholders, engineers, and delivery teams to improve business outcomes and support ongoing improvement across the auto business.
Based in central Auckland and reporting to the Delivery Manager, the role focuses on shaping solutions, refining workflows, supporting operational change, and making sure requirements are well defined from the initial idea through to delivery.
Key responsibilities
You will be expected to collect, examine, and document business, process, and technical requirements. The role also includes producing customer journeys, process maps, use cases, business rules, and functional specifications.
A major part of the job is leading workshops, working with stakeholders to confirm requirements, and acting as the communication link between business teams, delivery groups, and engineers. You will also investigate operational issues, defects, and change requests, including SQL and system analysis, and help coordinate resolution activities across teams.
In addition, you will assess business impact, dependencies, risk, and implementation considerations, while maintaining strong governance, clear documentation, traceability, and prioritisation practices.
What you should bring
The ideal candidate will have prior experience as a technical and business process analyst, preferably in financial services or insurance. You should also have a track record in technical system analysis, supporting business requests, and identifying process improvements.
Strong communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills are important, along with the ability to build productive relationships across cross-functional teams. You will need to be confident in documenting work clearly and concisely for different audiences, ideally using tools such as Miro, Ludic, or Visio.
The role also calls for someone who can analyse and document complex requirements, resolve conflicting inputs, and bring business and technical stakeholders into alignment. Experience in project-based and changing environments, ideally across global or regional delivery settings with multiple workstreams, is preferred.
Familiarity with technical, data-driven systems such as event-driven services, API endpoints, cloud or web services, SQL, and JSON/XML will help you succeed in this role.
Benefits and culture
- Access to development programmes, study grants, and support for higher education
- A cultural day off to recognise what matters to you
- International and local mentoring opportunities
- Diversity panels and employee resource groups
- Hybrid working arrangement with 3 days in the office and 2 days from home
- Two mental health recharge days each year
- Annual health and wellbeing allowance
- Opportunities to volunteer and support a cause that matters to you
Application and hiring notes
Applicants are asked to submit a resume along with a cover letter explaining their suitability for the role.
The selected candidate will need to complete relevant background screening, which may include reference checks and a Ministry of Justice Criminal Record Check.
Assurant states that it supports the responsible use of artificial intelligence during hiring and requires virtual interviews to be conducted on video so the real candidate can be assessed. Employment is also subject to identity verification, which may involve biometric technology where legally permitted and with appropriate notice and consent.
The company also notes that if no deadline is listed, applications may be collected on an ongoing basis.
Inclusion and equal opportunity
Assurant says it is committed to an inclusive hiring process and workplace, and it will provide reasonable accommodation or adjustment during recruitment if needed. The organisation also states that it is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected characteristics.
