Role Overview
We are looking for an Assistant Technician - Electrical to support day-to-day electrical maintenance and repair work across building services. This role is based in Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi Emirate, United Arab Emirates, and involves assisting technicians with routine upkeep, fault response, installation support, and safety compliance in a facilities environment.
Maintenance Support
- Assist with preventive and corrective servicing of electrical assets such as lighting circuits, socket outlets, distribution boards, control panels, and other building electrical systems.
- Carry out routine checks on electrical equipment and flag any defects, unusual conditions, or safety risks.
- Help with cleaning, tightening, and basic servicing of electrical parts and equipment as directed.
- Keep plant rooms, distribution boards, and service areas orderly, clean, and safe.
Troubleshooting and Repairs
- Support electrical technicians in tracing faults and restoring electrical systems.
- Assist with changing lamps, ballasts, LED drivers, switches, sockets, breakers, contactors, relays, and similar accessories.
- Help respond to urgent breakdowns and assist in bringing electrical services back online.
- Use basic electrical tools and test instruments only under supervision.
Installation and Minor Works
- Support cable pulling, cable dressing, preparation for terminations, conduit and trunking installation, and mounting of equipment.
- Assist in fitting or replacing lighting fixtures, outlets, isolators, and related electrical accessories.
- Help with small electrical alteration and refurbishment tasks.
- Organize, move, and prepare tools and materials needed for maintenance jobs.
Building Services Support
- Assist with electrical work related to HVAC systems, pumps, motors, water heaters, generators, UPS units, and other MEP equipment.
- Support testing and inspection of emergency lighting and standby power systems.
- Work with technicians and supervisors during planned shutdowns and scheduled maintenance activities.
Safety and Compliance
- Follow electrical safety procedures, permit-to-work requirements, lockout/tagout rules, and company HSE standards.
- Use personal protective equipment correctly at all times.
- Maintain good housekeeping in work areas and electrical rooms.
- Report unsafe conditions, incidents, and near misses to the supervisor without delay.
Documentation and Reporting
- Help complete maintenance checklists and service records.
- Report shortages of materials, spare parts needs, and equipment defects.
- Assist with asset inspections and maintenance documentation.
Qualifications and Experience
The position calls for an ITI, trade certificate, or other technical qualification in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Trade, along with a basic understanding of electrical maintenance methods and safety practices. A background of 1 to 3 years in electrical maintenance, building maintenance, construction, or facilities management is preferred, especially within commercial, residential, healthcare, hospitality, or government environments.
Skills and Competencies
Successful candidates should have a working knowledge of electrical systems, wiring, and building services; be comfortable using hand tools and simple testing equipment; understand electrical safety and PPE requirements; and be able to work effectively under supervision as part of a maintenance team. Good communication, a willingness to learn, and physical fitness for indoor and outdoor work are also important.
Preferred Exposure
Experience on facilities management contracts and building maintenance operations is advantageous, as is familiarity with low-voltage electrical systems, lighting circuits, power distribution equipment, and MEP maintenance. Basic awareness of generators, UPS systems, emergency lighting, and HVAC electrical controls is also preferred.
