Role overview
Export Finance Australia is seeking an Agile Project Manager based in Sydney for a full-time permanent role. The position sits within an organisation that has supported Australian businesses and international trade for nearly 70 years, helping finance export opportunities, market expansion, sustainable infrastructure, critical minerals, defence-related initiatives, and projects that strengthen economic resilience and support net zero goals.
The organisation works with banks, government bodies and international partners to back Australian exporters, supply chain businesses and industries, while contributing to broader trade, investment and economic security outcomes in the Indo-Pacific region.
The main purpose of this role is to drive continuous improvement work and complex project delivery, with responsibility for end-to-end outcomes, governance and value delivery.
What you will do
- Set up and uphold project delivery governance, including reporting on status, tracking budgets and handling escalations.
- Coordinate cross-functional project teams and make sure the right people are allocated to the right work.
- Plan and facilitate program increment or big room planning sessions so teams are aligned on priorities, objectives, dependencies, scope, timelines and deliverables at sprint and project level.
- Partner with Product Owners and delivery teams to ensure backlog items are clearly defined, prioritised and moving smoothly through the delivery cycle.
- Manage delivery across several teams by handling risks and dependencies, removing obstacles and keeping progress on track.
- Review delivery performance using agreed metrics and retrospectives, then adjust approaches to improve team effectiveness and outcomes.
- Work with vendors, contractors and consultants to ensure deliverables meet requirements and timelines.
- Influence senior business and technology stakeholders and help align them on delivery priorities and trade-offs.
- Communicate progress, risks and results clearly and promptly to stakeholders, team members and leadership, while incorporating feedback where relevant.
- Help shape and improve product and technology delivery practices and extend existing frameworks across the business.
What we are looking for
- A bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science or a related discipline.
- Experience and certification in one or more project management methodologies.
- At least 3 years of experience facilitating agile teams, supporting continuous improvement, and managing complex IT projects.
- Hands-on experience with planning, scheduling, risk management and budgeting.
- Strong communication skills for presenting delivery progress, updates and project details to stakeholders and senior leaders.
- Proven leadership ability to motivate teams and drive outcomes.
- Confidence using project management tools such as Microsoft Project, JIRA and Trello.
- Ability to identify, assess and manage technical, financial and resource-related risks, and apply mitigation plans.
- Strong analytical thinking to assess requirements, scope and constraints and spot opportunities to improve or optimise.
- Capability to work effectively with developers, analysts, testers and other stakeholders to achieve delivery goals.
- Good business acumen; experience in financial services is advantageous.
Benefits and culture
- Hybrid working environment.
- Recognition as a Great Place to Work for five consecutive years.
- Flexible work practices and a collaborative, inclusive and diverse culture.
- Generous leave options, including an annual wellbeing day and leave purchase opportunities.
- 18 weeks of paid parental leave for primary carers.
- Structured onboarding and induction support.
- Fitness Passport and other health and wellbeing initiatives.
- Gender affirmation leave.
- Income protection insurance.
- Community volunteering opportunities.
