Role overview

This permanent, full-time Vehicle Technician position is based at Ellesmere Port Vauxhall in Ellesmere Port, England. The workshop team is looking for a qualified Vehicle Technician / Mechanic to work alongside experienced colleagues and contribute to the service department by carrying out inspections, servicing, and repair work to a high standard.

You will report to the Aftersales Manager and receive support, training, and development opportunities, including manufacturer-accredited learning and Hybrid & Electric training. The role is open to qualified Vehicle Technicians or experienced mechanics from either a dealer network or an independent garage.

Working hours and pay

The role is scheduled for 40 hours a week, worked Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 5:00pm, plus 1 in 3 Saturdays from 8:30am to 12:30pm. Earnings include an on-target package of up to £52,480 with no cap, made up of a basic salary between £28,000 and £43,000 depending on qualifications, plus a £3,000 productivity bonus and a Time Saved Bonus scheme.

Key duties

• Carry out pre-delivery inspections on both new and used vehicles.
• Complete checks according to manufacturer standards and guidelines.
• Install extra accessories requested by customers.
• Perform vehicle health checks and flag any further work that may be needed.
• Inspect lights, tyre pressures, and mechanical and electrical components.
• Handle minor repairs on new and used vehicles.
• Use basic diagnostic skills for mechanical and electrical issues.
• Service vehicles in line with manufacturer requirements and customer instructions.
• Carry out additional repairs once they have been approved by the customer.
• Process warranty repairs according to manufacturer rules and complete the necessary write-up.
• Road test vehicles to confirm that faults have been resolved.
• Prepare and complete all associated paperwork to a high standard.

Candidate profile

The ideal applicant will already have experience working as a mechanic, be self-driven, ambitious, and keen to continue learning. You should be committed to working to a very high standard and be comfortable taking responsibility for quality and customer satisfaction.

Requirements

• Previous experience as a mechanic or vehicle technician.
• NVQ Level 3 or an equivalent qualification.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Ability to work accurately and maintain high workmanship standards.
• Willingness to learn and develop through training.

Training and progression
