Role overview
The Transportation Technician supports hospital-wide movement of patients, equipment, and materials across nursing units, outpatient clinics, the main laboratory, and other departments. The role also includes handling special transport needs for neonatal patients from the parking level to the nursing unit.

Compensation
Pay range: $17.50 to $32.69 per hour.
Key duties
- Move patients between nursing units, outpatient clinics, and other hospital areas, including special transport requests for neonatal patients.
- Pick up and deliver specimens, supplies, materials, and other assigned items to and from clinical areas, the main laboratory, and other parts of the hospital.
- Support urgent Code and Trauma situations by responding quickly, handling specimen requests, and processing samples appropriately.
- Use HBOC order entry during Codes or Trauma events to enter diagnostic tests when confirmed by the physician order and nursing verification.
- Complete delivery requests as needed on an as-needed basis.
Minimum qualifications
A high school diploma or GED is required, along with at least 1 year of relevant experience in a healthcare setting.
Skills and physical requirements
- Ability to lift around 50 lbs.
- Comfort with bending, kneeling, and climbing ladders or stairs.
- Good hand-eye coordination, fast and accurate visual tracking, and vision clarity at 20 feet or more.
- Capacity to move rapidly when emergency support is needed elsewhere in the hospital.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Well-developed organization and prioritization abilities.
- Ability to work with a calculator and personal computer.
