The team supports Microsoft’s broader mission by building trusted security capabilities for complex, distributed environments and by helping safeguard digital platforms, devices, and cloud services worldwide.

This opening is for a Software Engineer in the India team, based in Hyderabad. The role involves developing cryptographic and related functional services that support licensing applications. You will help design, build, and operate global licensing services used by products such as Windows, Office, Xbox, and Azure. The team manages around 40 business-critical services in a DevOps model, some of which run at very large scale with billions of transactions each day.

Responsibilities

• Develop clean, well-structured code with an emphasis on simplicity, quality, and long-term maintainability.
• Design solutions with a strong understanding of customer needs and user experience.
• Work closely with cross-functional partners to take solutions from concept through deployment and live-site support.
• Participate in and improve design, code, and test reviews.
• Stay current with new tools, technologies, methods, and engineering practices used at Microsoft and across the industry.
• Contribute to future architectural direction for the team and its services.
• Help strengthen core service areas such as capacity planning, performance, reliability, and monitoring.
• Demonstrate Microsoft values through day-to-day behavior and collaboration.
• Use AI-assisted tools to support development, testing, deployment, and live-site work.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or an equivalent qualification.
• At least 2 years of strong development and/or testing experience with software products or services across different technologies.
• Practical knowledge of enterprise architecture patterns.
• Hands-on exposure to Microsoft tools and the Azure technology stack.
• Experience with requirement, design, code, and inspection reviews.
• Familiarity with one or more of performance testing, security testing, privacy testing, or accessibility testing.
• Ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional teams.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate clearly across groups.
• Experience with DevOps practices and a strong commitment to live-site reliability.
• Excellent debugging and problem-solving ability, along with a solid understanding of testing practices.
• Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and government security screening requirements.
• Must be able to pass the Microsoft background check and Microsoft Cloud background check on hiring/transfer and every two years afterward.

Team scope

The Crypto Services team builds and operates secure services that help license and protect Microsoft and partner intellectual property. These services support secure product ingestion, protection, and distribution at scale, including malware scanning and digital manufacturing capabilities. The platform impacts more than 250 million licenses issued each month and processes close to 5 billion transactions monthly.

Eligibility

Applicants who meet the technical qualifications, can work from Hyderabad in an onsite full-time role, and are able to clear the required security screening are eligible to apply.
