Site Operative

Role overview

This position sits within a busy construction setting and supports the smooth running of site activities. The work involves helping maintain standards across the development, with responsibilities touching on materials, site tidiness, safety, signage, and general site presentation. The role reports to the Site Manager and is expected to be completed to a high standard and within set timeframes.

The business operates across roughly 400 developments in towns and rural locations throughout the UK, including both new-build brownfield schemes and projects that involve repurposing existing structures such as former factories and unused hospitals. Success in this environment depends on practical thinking, initiative, commercial awareness, and the ability to balance people, budgets, and costs.

What you will do

• Complete assigned site duties exactly as directed by the Site Manager and in accordance with company standards and procedures.
• Keep all on-site signage, including sales boards, plot signs, and safety notices, clean, presentable, and in good condition.
• Take ownership of health and safety awareness on site and escalate any unsafe practice or rule breaches to the Site Manager.
• Make sure that any fixed materials are protected by the subcontractor installing them, following the relevant procedures.
• Ensure protective coverings remain in place for as long as possible and inform the Site Manager if anyone removes or damages them permanently.
• Maintain the compound area and welfare facilities so they remain orderly and usable.
• Support a tidy working environment by ensuring plots under construction are kept clean by all trades.
• Inspect plots under construction every day and remove surplus materials from the area.
• Separate and recycle site waste in line with group guidelines.
• Review show home gardens and public open spaces weekly and clear any litter that has blown into those areas.

Requirements

• A proactive self-starter who can use their own initiative and work independently without close supervision.
• Previous experience on large-volume residential housebuilding sites.
• Good awareness of health and safety expectations.
• A valid CSCS card or equivalent partner scheme card.

Additional information

The company supports a hybrid working approach where the role allows, although this position is site-based in practice. Team members may split time between offices, construction sites, sales offices, and home working depending on the nature of the role.
