The dePaul School for Dyslexia is an independent specialized school serving children from kindergarten through 8th grade who have dyslexia and other language-based learning challenges. Its mission is to help students build both academic achievement and personal confidence.

Role Overview

The Math Teacher will report to the Principal and teach math to students in grades 5 through 8 with language-based learning differences, including dyslexia and dyscalculia. The position calls for a student-centered educator who can identify learning gaps and use explicit, sequential, multisensory instruction to close them. Ongoing professional development is part of the role so that teaching practices remain current and effective.

Responsibilities

• Design and deliver math lessons for middle school students with language-based learning differences.
• Remain adaptable if asked to teach an additional subject.
• Monitor student progress and revise instruction based on learning needs.
• Set classroom routines and behavior guidelines for multi-age learning groups.
• Assess academic and social development, maintain grades, and complete report cards.
• Keep parents informed through regular communication about student progress.
• Continue building professional expertise through ongoing training and development.
• Adapt to changing schedules and frequent student transitions as needed.
• Oversee students during activities outside the classroom when required.

Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree from an accredited university is required.
• Prior teaching experience is required.
• Experience using manipulatives is preferred.
• Background working with children who have language-based learning differences is preferred.
