Role Summary
This is a full-time remote position for a Mandarin Interpreter. The person in this role will facilitate live interpretation between Mandarin and English during phone conversations, video calls, and online meetings. The work requires accurate, culturally sensitive communication, careful listening, and faithful delivery of messages in both directions. The interpreter must also follow confidentiality rules and professional ethics, including HIPAA-related requirements where applicable.
Key Duties
In day-to-day work, the interpreter will support real-time communication, keep detailed and accurate assignment records, follow client-specific procedures, and coordinate closely with scheduling or operations teams to deliver prompt and dependable service. The role also calls for ongoing language development, familiarity with terminology used in healthcare, business, and other professional environments, and effective use of remote communication tools.
Qualifications
- High fluency in Mandarin and English, both spoken and written, with the ability to interpret accurately and smoothly in real time.
- Excellent active listening, comprehension, and note-taking skills to preserve meaning and detail across languages.
- Strong cultural awareness and the flexibility to communicate appropriately with people from varied backgrounds.
- Experience using remote communication tools such as phone systems, video conferencing platforms, and secure online applications, along with basic troubleshooting ability.
- Understanding of professional ethics, confidentiality practices, and HIPAA compliance; prior exposure to medical or professional interpreting is an advantage.
- Good organizational habits, dependability, and the ability to manage time effectively in a remote full-time role.
- Formal interpreter or translator training/certification, or equivalent professional experience; a degree in languages, communication, or a related area is preferred.
- Ability to work with coordination teams, respond quickly to assignment requests, and maintain professionalism at all times.
