Role Summary
The selected candidate will be responsible for supervising, advising, and challenging QNB subsidiaries on all matters connected to the Group Operational Risk Framework. The role supports the VP of Subsidiaries Operational Risk and involves close collaboration with Heads of Risk and Operational Risk across locations to ensure a consistent methodology, approach, and execution standard for operational risk management.
Key Responsibilities
Shareholder & Financial
- Help roll out the updated QNB Group Operational Risk Framework, including policies, procedures, and standards, to strengthen the group’s handling of operational risk.
- Improve management oversight by reviewing and reporting operational risk data.
- Make sure Group Risk Committee policies, procedures, directives, and guidelines are circulated quickly and clearly understood by the relevant teams so that the bank’s interests are protected, risks are reduced, operations run more efficiently, and financial losses are avoided.
- Translate the most significant operational risk issues into clear insights to support risk-based decisions at executive committee level, encourage meaningful management discussion, and enable effective board oversight.
- Encourage a strong control mindset and wider risk awareness throughout the business.
- Implement KPIs and leading practices for subsidiary operational risk.
- Operate within the authority delegated to the role.
- Work with cross-functional teams to ensure financial information and reporting remain accurate and reliable.
Customer Interaction
- Support internal and external customers with queries related to bank products and help guide them toward suitable solutions.
- Maintain work in line with service level agreements with internal departments and units to improve turnaround time.
- Build strong working relationships with other departments to help the group meet its objectives.
- Provide timely and accurate information to internal and external auditors, Compliance, Financial Control, and Risk teams whenever required.
- Help run the QNB Operational Risk Committee by preparing strong papers that highlight key risk matters and support productive discussion from subsidiary members.
- Contribute papers and commentary to governance committees so the operational risk position is clearly communicated and understood.
- Bring together portfolio management data and other MIS inputs from the operational risk sub-functions.
- Prepare accurate operational risk reports and share them with the relevant business units and senior management for review and action.
- Keep up to date with operational risk best-practice guidance and work to embed it within the group’s operational risk processes.
- Develop, finalise, and report on the Key Risk Indicators established for each subsidiary.
- Continuously assess systems, processes, and infrastructure to confirm that policies, procedures, and standards exist to identify, assess, measure, manage, and report operational risk, including systemic risk in the subsidiaries.
- Escalate relevant operational risk matters and issues as requested by the VP Subsidiaries Operational Risk, ensuring compliance with internal and external requirements.
- Contribute to other projects assigned by the VP of Subsidiaries.
Internal Processes, Products & Regulatory
- Understand business processes and control environments across the related operational areas.
- Bring strong knowledge of quantitative methods used to assess, measure, and manage operational risk.
- Stay aware of all relevant regulations and industry practices related to operational risk.
Education and Experience Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline such as Marketing, Banking, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or Information Technology.
- At least 6 years of relevant professional experience, preferably gained in a highly rated international bank.
