Role overview
This position is responsible for preparing estimates quickly and accurately, while also providing administrative, proposal-related, and day-to-day support to the business development team. The main goal is to make sure client and prospect estimates are completed correctly and delivered within the expected turnaround time.
Key responsibilities
The role covers estimate preparation, rate handling, tender support, and query resolution across freight and logistics activities.
- Prepare estimates in line with client and agent requirements across all transport modes, including both imports and exports.
- Obtain landside and freight charges from agents and service providers around the world.
- Check that estimate charges match the client rates recorded in CargoWise and the forwarding instructions.
- Perform continuous quality checks on estimates.
- Apply knowledge of customs tariffs and port charges when compiling estimates.
- Send estimates to the appropriate sales or client service representative for review before they are issued to the client.
- Store approved estimates in Excel format under the client EDOCS tab in CargoWise.
- Provide support with client queries.
- Assist with administrative work and proposal preparation.
- Support global agent rate negotiations.
Rates and pricing
- Maintain client rates and keep all rate schedules current.
- Share buy and sell rates with the operations team.
- Negotiate rates with third parties.
- Where pricing is not already on file, request the required costs from the relevant agent or supplier.
Tender management
- Prepare tenders according to client and agent requirements for all transport modes, including imports and exports.
- Negotiate with carriers and agents on active tenders to secure the best possible pricing while protecting margin.
- Submit tenders before the closing deadline.
- Track tender outcomes and confirm whether the company was successful.
Query handling
- Respond to estimate and rate-related queries.
- Communicate queries and amendments to all relevant parties.
Requirements
- Matric or an equivalent senior certificate.
- Strong computer literacy.
- Working knowledge of air, ocean, and road transport modes.
- Good administrative capability.
- Solid understanding of Incoterms 2010.
- At least 2 years of experience in freight forwarding and clearing.
