Role overview
BodySpec is hiring a junior-level technical support engineer in Austin, Texas. This position is aimed at someone who wants to work on genuine engineering problems rather than scripted support tasks. You will investigate technical issues, create scripts and queries to resolve them, and partner closely with the engineering team. The role also offers a clear growth path toward a full-time engineering position as your skills develop.
Compensation
For a first-year junior support engineer in Austin, total cash compensation can reach up to $70,170, with equity included as part of the overall package.
Base salary is $62,000 per year.
The annual performance bonus can go up to 7% of base pay, which equals $4,340. Half of that bonus is paid in cash ($2,170) and the other half is delivered in stock options.
There is also a team revenue bonus of $500 per month when monthly goals are achieved, which works out to $6,000 a year. The company notes that these goals were met in 9 out of 12 months in 2025.
In addition, team members may receive stock option grants and profit sharing based on performance, regardless of role. Compensation is expected to increase over time as the business grows.
What you will do
- Investigate technical issues across the website, admin systems, and internal tools, mainly through Slack communication with both internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Build scripts and run database queries to identify root causes, extract data, and automate repetitive fixes.
- Prepare thorough bug reports for the engineering team, including reproduction steps, logs, and your first-pass diagnosis.
- Collaborate directly with engineers to understand the technology stack and help contribute to solutions.
- Handle weekend technical and development support on a rotating schedule set by the team.
- Create documentation and internal knowledge resources so recurring issues can be resolved more efficiently.
- Continue building your technical skills with the longer-term aim of moving into a software engineering role.
What the role calls for
- Strong curiosity about how systems work, with the ability to dig into logs, trace failures, and determine the underlying cause rather than applying quick fixes.
- Clear communication skills for explaining technical matters to non-technical people and writing concise, useful updates for engineers.
- Solid programming fundamentals and the ability to work confidently in at least one language while learning others as needed.
- Comfort with databases and query writing, such as SQL or similar tools.
- Strong written communication for day-to-day work in Slack and email.
- Good judgment about when to solve an issue independently and when to involve engineering.
- Calm, patient approach with frustrated users, while still pushing for durable fixes instead of temporary workarounds.
- Willingness to receive direct feedback and improve quickly.
- Availability for rotating weekend support coverage.
Benefits
- Health, dental, and vision coverage.
- 401(k) retirement plan.
- Paid time off.
- Sick leave.
- Peer bonus program that recognizes strong teamwork.
- Employee assistance program.
- Regular team events, both online and in person.
- Direct mentorship from experienced operators who have scaled companies before.
