Junior Construction Estimator

Role Summary

ONIT Construction is expanding its estimating department and is seeking a detail-focused Junior Construction Estimator with experience in ICI projects. The role will support the preparation of competitive bids, tender submissions, and pricing for institutional, commercial, and industrial work across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area.

What You’ll Do

In this position, you will assist the estimating team with project pricing, bid preparation, and analysis of tender documents. You will work alongside the Senior Estimator, project managers, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure estimates are complete, accurate, and aligned with scope and company expectations.

Key Duties

• Support the preparation of detailed cost estimates for ICI construction work
• Search for and monitor new tender opportunities using industry tender platforms
• Draft prequalification submissions for review by the Senior Estimator
• Examine drawings, specifications, and tender documents to determine project scope
• Perform quantity take-offs and analyze material and labour pricing
• Collect, assess, and compare subcontractor and supplier pricing
• Help assemble tender packages and bid submissions with the Senior Estimator
• Assist with project handoff by sharing estimating details with project teams
• Keep bid records, pricing data, and estimating files well organized
• Contribute to better estimating processes, templates, and tools
• Follow a safety-first mindset that aligns with COR requirements

Qualifications

• At least 2 years of construction estimating experience, with ICI exposure preferred
• Ability to review tender packages thoroughly, identify complete scope, and work efficiently under tight bid timelines
• Solid understanding of construction techniques, materials, and sequencing
• Hands-on experience with online tender systems such as Bids & Tenders
• Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, and MEP drawings and specifications
• Working knowledge of Bluebeam or PlanSwift
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving ability
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Comfortable using Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
• Ability to collaborate well and manage several deadlines at once

Preferred Experience

• Previous exposure to a COR-certified workplace or COR management system
• Knowledge of Ontario construction standards and tendering practices
• Background supporting project managers during pre-construction and handover stages

Job Details

This is a full-time contract role. The working schedule is Monday to Friday. Compensation is competitive and will be based on experience. The position is on-site at 3228 South Service Road, Burlington, ON L7N 3H8.
