Role overview
Lancashire County Council is hiring an organised and detail-focused Housing Support Officer to join its School Place Planning team. This permanent full-time role is for 37 hours per week and is based at County Hall with a hybrid working arrangement. The salary range is £28,142 to £32,061 per year.
The post sits within Education - School Place Planning and focuses on coordinating education responses to housing development across Lancashire. Working with the School Place Planning Housing Principal, you will help review planning applications, monitor housing growth, and make sure the right contributions are secured to offset pressure on school places.
This opportunity is well suited to someone who wants to develop experience in planning, data analysis, and infrastructure coordination in a supportive local government setting.
Key responsibilities
- Track planning portals and deal with housing-related applications.
- Evaluate how new developments may affect demand for school places.
- Assist with securing and monitoring Section 106 contributions.
- Keep precise records of contributions, triggers, and clawback dates.
- Use data analysis to support planning and decision-making.
- Help prepare statutory submissions such as the Infrastructure Funding Statement.
- Contribute to planning responses and service reports.
- Develop productive relationships with district officers, developers, and other stakeholders.
What we are looking for
The ideal candidate will have experience in administration, planning, or data-focused work, along with strong organisational ability, analytical thinking, and confident IT skills, including Microsoft Office. You should be able to balance multiple priorities, work to deadlines, and communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders. Familiarity with planning or education frameworks would be an advantage.
A relevant qualification or equivalent practical experience is required.
Working arrangements and additional information
This role is not open to international sponsorship.
It is designated as an essential car user post, so you must be able to provide a vehicle for work and hold appropriate business insurance. Reasonable adjustments will be considered.
Applicants must submit an application form and a supporting statement through Lancashire County Council’s recruitment process, showing how they meet the requirements of the role.
The closing date is 24 July 2026, with interviews scheduled for the week commencing 3 August 2026. The council may close the vacancy early if enough suitable applications are received.
If appointed, the role will be subject to DBS disclosure requirements under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975, as amended in 2013.
Lancashire County Council also notes that its full range of employee benefits is available on its vacancies website.
Values and team culture
The council is seeking someone who reflects its values of being supportive, innovative, respectful, and collaborative, and who aligns with the Lancashire Mindset of growth, ownership, optimism, and positive impact.
Benefits
You will play a part in making sure education infrastructure keeps pace with housing growth, contributing to strong and sustainable communities across Lancashire. The role also offers flexible hybrid working, opportunities for progression, and a supportive team environment.
