Full Stack Engineer

Opportunity Overview

A well-established, product-focused organisation within a larger group is looking for a Full Stack Engineer to join its tight-knit engineering team in Auckland. The role is practical and varied, covering backend, frontend, and cloud work, with an initial onboarding period focused on smaller BAU tasks and bug fixes before moving into larger development and migration projects. Engineers are shifted between product streams based on delivery needs, which creates variety and regular learning opportunities.

Technology Environment

The ideal candidate will have experience across most of the following tools and platforms, though not necessarily every single one.

• PHP and Laravel for backend development
• MySQL
• React and Next.js for modern frontend work
• AWS, including EC2 and S3
• Useful extras: Docker, Bitbucket, Atlassian tools, and Confluence

Key Work Areas

• Create, improve, and support backend services and APIs using PHP/Laravel.
• Develop user-facing features with React and Next.js.
• Work on applications hosted in AWS, including EC2, S3, and related services.
• Begin with operational and maintenance tasks to gain familiarity with the systems, then progress into ownership of larger initiatives.
• Contribute within an agile, cross-functional team and help maintain project momentum.

About the Candidate

The employer is open to candidates from intermediate through senior level. The key factors are capability, attitude, and willingness to take ownership.

• Proven commercial experience building web applications.
• Comfort working across the stack, or at minimum with a backend focus paired with strong frontend ability.
• Hands-on experience with AWS in a production setting.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills, especially in a smaller team where individual contributions are visible.
• Comfortable taking initiative and stepping into a project-lead style approach when required.

Compensation and Benefits

• Base salary of $115,000.
