Environmental Services Worker - Days

Job Summary

The Environmental Service Worker I plays a key role in keeping the facility clean, safe, and comfortable for everyone who enters it. This position is responsible for routine cleaning, floor maintenance, and waste handling in assigned areas while following hygiene, infection-control, and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Clean and disinfect assigned spaces such as patient rooms, corridors, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, elevators, stairwells, locker rooms, and other work areas in line with infection-control procedures.
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, and dust floors, furnishings, and equipment using suitable tools and methods.
• Maintain hard floors and carpeted areas, including stripping, refinishing, and treating floors and upholstery according to department guidelines.
• Wash walls, ceilings, glass, woodwork, door surfaces, and similar areas to support a sanitary environment.
• Replenish supplies in assigned locations, keep track of stock levels, and communicate shortages when needed.
• Collect, move, and dispose of trash and biohazard waste safely while following safety rules and HIPAA requirements.
• Use and care for cleaning equipment properly, and report any equipment issues or repair needs.
• Support minor maintenance or repair tasks and escalate larger facility concerns to the proper team.
• Carry out other assigned duties as needed.
• Maintain dependable, regular attendance.
• Follow all organizational policies and standards.

Qualifications

• Prior experience of 1 to 2 years in cleaning or environmental services is preferred.

Skills and Abilities

• Working knowledge of cleaning products, tools, and methods.
• Familiarity with infection-control and safety practices.
• Ability to safely operate cleaning equipment.
• Strong attention to detail and effective time management.
• Good communication and people skills for working with staff, patients, and visitors.
• Physical stamina for repetitive work and lifting or moving items as required.

State-Specific Requirements

• In Indiana, Lutheran Hospital requires completion of the assigned SAMA course within 30 days of hire.
• In Mississippi, successful completion of the assigned SAMA course within 30 days of hire is required.
• In North Carolina, successful completion of the assigned SAMA course within 30 days of hire is required.
